In a Disabled World newsletter recently is an article reporting that the Kakadu Plum, a little round green fruit grown in Australia, may be used to treat Alzheimer’s disease. According to the article, this plum has the highest natural source of vitamin C of any plant in the world and also has superior antioxidant properties. The article states that the Kakadu plum contains phytochemicals such as gallic and ellagic acids. Gallic acid contains anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal activities as well as anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour, anti-mutagenic and anti-bronchodilatory activities. The article also states that ellagic acid has anti-carcinogenic effects against a wide range of carcinogens in many human tissues.

Researchers believe that this plum could become the most powerful treatment for Alzheimer’s disease. It is being distributed by the Kakadu Plum Co. and founder Tahlia Mandie is making it her mission to make it available to everyday Australians and making more people aware of the native bush tucker foods. The Kukadu Co. also employs some people with disabilities.

Child Haven International will be hosting a fundraising dinner at the Glengarry Sports Palace in Alexandria. The dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 29,2016 at 6pm. There will be an Auction Exhibit and Cash Bar at 6pm followed by a Thai dinner catered by Bhanthai Cuisine at 7pm. The evening will be emceed by Scott Hannant and Kinnon Lajoie. The Silent Auction will feature Nepali, Tibetan, Bangladeshi and Indian artifacts. Tickets are $45 per person or $320 for a table of 8. Child Haven International has 10 projects in four countries: India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Tibet in China which house, educate, provide medical care and lots of love for destitute children and women in need.

There is a song titled, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” sung by Chrystal Gayle. Sometimes I sing, “Don’t He Make My Black Hair Grey” which is caused by Tiger, my cat, of course.

I couldn’t find him the other day. He was nowhere to be found. I called and called. No Tiger. I searched every cupboard and closet and every room. He was not in his little house either. I opened the front door even though I hadn’t opened it yet that day and searched around. No Tiger. Whew! What to do?? I was getting panicky. I imagined him suffocating somewhere I had missed. Then I thought of the window. Maybe he had managed to slide the screen from the lower window open and down he would have gone. Just as I am checking it, I noticed him in a tiny corner behind the TV stand, staring at a little bug which was probably frozen in fear on the wall. Now that is a cat for you. If you call a dog, they come to you. Not a cat mesmerized by a big alien bug. That cat totally ignored me for quite a long time. Don’t he make my black hair grey!! Cat for sale, again!! Cheap!!

From my old photo album from my student nursing days is a photo of our skeleton named, I thought, Charlie. However, in the picture Charlie seems to be dressed in Baby dolls pj’s..so it must have been called some name a bit more feminine like Charlene. I asked a couple of my classmates but they couldn’t remember either. The skeleton was a teaching aid in nurses training.Remember the song we used to sing,”The hip bone’s connected to the leg bone. The leg bone’s conected to the knee bone.” etc. etc.We had to learn the proper terms like pelvis, femur and patella.

We were having a party and it looks like Charlie alias Charlene got invited for some reason. Two of the instructresses are beside it. We are not sure of their names but I remember that the teacher on the left of the skeleton taught us Massage Therapy…I think. lol Where did the years go and our memeories with them!!

Notice the plaid skirts they are wearing which was in voque at the time. It would be nice to have one today actually. Always in style.

How is this for a ‘Cool Lass”? Actually Lady is her name and is owned by a friend of mine. Lady is a beautiful dog, frisky and playful. Thanks Kev, for sharing this amusing photo with us.
