What you should do

Check to see if you have recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

Background

This recall was triggered by a recall in another country. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.

The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.

Illnesses

There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

  1. We make our own homos and it is very easy to make from scratch. Homos is made from chickpeas and there are the ones in the cans and there are the ones that you soak overnight. We put in a little Tahini which is ground up sesame seeds with a little oil. You find Tahini in the Mediterranean Isle at supermarkets or specialty stores or health food stores. You can make your own as well.

  2. Folks you can add your own fixings to what you like and don’t buy this reddy made – make your own. There is a site on line where you can find these recipes and here it is: http://www.dedemed.com This lady is a Lebanese/American and has great recipes. You too Jamie go there even for your shawarma. You don’t need that special machine to cook and cut just use a regular pyrex baking dish and away you go

  3. To make your own homos you use a blender or food processor. Go on dedemed.com and look for what you want. When you purchase things in the stores you don’t know what you are buying so make your own. If you can’t find certain spices in Cornhole you can improvise or make the trip to Ottawa. We make everything ourselves and don’t eat out.

  4. I purchased a can of chick peas just lately where my daughter works and we make this often. Do you know that you can use it as a dip for chips, for veggie dip, etc. Some people like to put hot peppers in it as well.
