OPP LAY CHARGES IN THEFT OF IMPROPER PRIZE PAYOUT (OLG)
(BALDWIN, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Investigations and Enforcement Bureau attached to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) were called to investigate an incident of theft of improper payout of lottery winnings at a lottery retail location in Baldwin, ON. The investigation was referred to the OPP by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).
On April 11, 2017, 42 year old, Tamesh “Ricky” THANKARASA, was charged with one count of Theft Under $5,000.00 contrary to Section 334 of the Criminal Code for allegedly not paying a complete payout of a lottery winning at a retail location while he was employed there as a clerk. The accused was issued a criminal Court Summons and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket, ON, on May 24 2017
Effective January 1, 2008, the OPP Bureau at the AGCO was assigned responsibility to investigate insider wins by persons regulated by the AGCO and suspicious wins for lotteries conducted and managed by the OLG.
