Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 114 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on June 26, 2017. Of these, 71 calls occurred in the city central area, 22 in the west end, 6 in the east end, and 1 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 6 domestic calls
  • 2 assault calls
  • 5 harassment calls
  • 1 fight/disturbance call
  • 1 undesirable call
  • 1 drunk call
  • 1 custody dispute call
  • 1 alarm call
  • 2 noise complaints
  • 4 Mental Health Act calls
  • 4 medical assist calls
  • 11 assist citizen calls
  • 2 break and enter calls
  • 5 theft calls
  • 1 shoplifting call
  • 4 mischief calls
  • 2 fraud calls
  • 6 motor vehicle collisions
  • 5 driving complaints
  • 2 traffic concerns
  • 2 suspicious activity calls
  • 1 trespass/prowler call
  • 2 drug calls

There were 8 men arrested within the last 24 hours, between 24 and 53 years of age, for the following: assault, assault with a weapon (motor vehicle), dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police, impaired driving, operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol, assault with a weapon, uttering death threats, assault, forcible confinement, mischief, breach of recognizance, and breach of probation. Three persons were arrested on outstanding warrants.

Impaired Driving at Double the Speed Limit

A 25-year-old local man was arrested after driving impaired and twice the speed limit and then failing to stop for police.

On June 26, 2017 at approximately 11:30 p.m. the accused was travelling southbound on Division Street at an estimated speed of over 100 km/h. Near Division Street and Railway Street the accused pulled out to pass vehicles, directly into the path of a police cruiser. The officer turned around and activated emergency lights, but lost sight of the accused who continued driving dangerously southbound on Division Street.

Police began searching the area and the vehicle was located a short time later at an address on Elm Street. The accused was arrested for dangerous driving and found to be impaired by alcohol.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have approximately 2 ½ times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The accused was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to stop for police, impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.

The accused was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. His driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Man Attacks Victim and then Injures her with his Vehicle

A 38-year-old local man was charged with assault with a weapon after injuring his common-law with a vehicle.

On June 17, 2017 at approximately 7:45 p.m. the accused and the victim (common-law) began arguing in their driveway. During the argument the accused became angry and began assaulting the victim. The accused stopped the assault when he realized the victim’s daughter was watching and he jumped in his vehicle. The accused accelerated out of the driveway while the victim was holding his driver’s door and as a result she was thrown off her feet and suffered injuries as she landed on the roadway.

Police and Paramedics responded and the victim was treated for her injuries. The accused whereabouts were unknown and a warrant was issued.

On June 26, 2017 at approximately 1:30 p.m. the accused was located and arrested. The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with two counts of assault, assault with a weapon (motor vehicle) and breach of probation.

Man Tried to Keep Victim from Work, Facing Multiple Charges

A 29-year-old local man attempted to keep the victim (common-law) from going to work after assaulting and threatening her.

On June 25, 2017 the accused and the victim had an argument over her cellphone. The argument led to the accused threatening the victim with scissors and assaulting her. The following day the accused and another party drove the victim to work, but at the last minute the accused he refused to let her go. The victim cried out for help and staff members intervened.

On June 27, 2017 at approximately 2:15 a.m. the accused was located at his residence and arrested without incident.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering death threats, assault, and forcible confinement.
