Seniors Situation Room by Dawn Ford – A Concert @ Beek Lindsay Seniors Resident 071419

It is so nice to have a concert to look forward to knowing you will enjoy every moment of it. Recently, Ed Lauzon and his two sons, Ed. Jr. and Adam entertained the tenants and friends of Beek Lindsay Seniors Residence.

Ed sang many of our old favourite songs beginning with ” Murder on Music Row”. Next he sang Elvis’s romantic, “Can’t help Falling in Love with You”. It was not only romantic but beautifully done. Another great song of George Straight’s, “I Just Want to Dance with You” got a lot of people up dancing.

When you hear music like that, you just can’t sit there – you have to get up and dance. Edna Dorey, 103 years old was up dancing also and it was wonderful to watch her.

Other favourites included among many others were : “Under the Boardwalk”, “The Wanderer”, “Runaway”, ” Who Stopped the Rain?”,” Brown Eyed Girl”, “Rolling on the River, “Willie Nelson’s “Good Morning America”, “When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again”, “Devil Woman”, “Crazy Arms”, “Just Walk On By” and Kris Kristofferson ‘s ” Sunday Morning coming Down”.

One lady made a comment that some songs were jogging her memory. It was true. When Ed sang “Earth Angel”, I thought about all the times I had danced to that song as a young teenager at the YMCA on a Saturday night.

Another memory came when he sang Paul Anka’s, “Diana”. In the mid fifties, Paul was starting out in his career with a group called ‘The Bobby Soxers’. They came to CCVS, our high school, one evening and gave a concert. The next day some of us students went to the King George Hotel where Paul and the group had been staying for the night. We waited until they were leaving and got their autographs.

Ed also sang a few humorous songs he had written which were fun and amusing.

Ed Jr. treated us to a few great solos joined in by Ed and Adam for the choruses.

Ed gave some instructions on some line dancing moves and he and some people got up and did some line dancing which was fun to watch.

The concert lasted two and a half hours. Wonderful evening. Thanks so much Ed, Ed. Jr. and Adam for taking so much time to bring joy, music and fun to all of us that evening. We all appreciated it very much.

Not sure about this but it may be that Peewee the Chipmunk is really Petunia. Bob Katz fed the little chipmunk he named Pee Wee last summer and fall near his home.

This spring Pee Wee appeared and seemed a little fatter. It wasn’t long before a tiny little chipmunk was also running around. So..maybe ..just maybe …. Pee Wee is really Petunia. Bob said the little one is so fast that he hasn’t got its photo yet but he is working on it.

July weather makes an old Girl Guide think of those camping days at Charlottenburg Park, east of Cornwall. Our Trinity Anglican Church Girl Guide Company spent many days there each summer having lots of fun in the 1950’s.

In this photo, enjoying a snack on the picnic table are: to the left front I think is Frances Glass, Beverly Heward, our Girl Guide Captain “Skip”, Allison Maitland and on the other side of the table from the back, Ann Tabram and Myrna Plumley.

In the Good Times Magazine of July/August 2019, in the ‘health and wellness’ column is a report saying that naps, such as a midday siesta, are linked to a lower Blood Pressure. In a study of 122 adults ( average age 62 and BP 129.9/76.7 mmHg respectively) by some European Researchers, blood pressure readings were lower at the end of the study in those who took a daytime nap than those who didn’t. The article quotes the source as the American College of Cardiology’s 68th. Annual Scientific Session.

When we were kids we used to swim at the Silver Bridge in the east end of Cornwall. It was a rickety old bridge where the canal turned toward the St. Lawrence River and it emptied out on a spot we knew as ‘The Bywash’. A friend who grew up in the east end told me recently that there were blood suckers in the water at the bridge.

I had never heard that before and I am sure had my friends and I knew that we would not have been swimming there. We had heard that there were maybe blood suckers in the area of the banks of the St Lawrence where the Air Force Wing is today. We didn’t believe it but thought that it had been a good way to keep kids away from trying to swim there. It worked because we didn’t swim there for sure. Anyway, we have lots of nice memories of swimming at the old Silver Bridge and…. no blood suckers.

Tiger is all set in this photo after donning a cap to watch the All Star Baseball Game with me. He likes baseball also, I guess.

So cute.

Here is a joke from a friend:

Several men are in the locker room of a golf club. A cellular phone on a bench rings and a man engages in a hands-free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone in the room stops to listen.

Man:” Hello”

Woman: “Hi Honey. it’s me. Are you at the club?”

Man: “Yes.”

woman: “I’m at the shops now and found this beautiful leather cost costing only $2000. Is it ok if I buy it?”

Man: “Sure, go ahead if you like it that much.”

Woman: “I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one I really liked.”

Man: “How much?”

woman: “$90,000.”

Man: “Ok but for that price I want all the options.”

Woman: “Great! Oh, and one more thing… I was just talking to Janie and found out that the house I wanted last year is back on the market. They are asking $1,980,000 for it.”

Man: ” Well go ahead and offer $1,900,000. They will probably take it. If not, we can go the extra eighty-thousand if it is what you really want.”

Woman: “Ok. I will see you later. I love you so much!”

Man: “Bye. I love you too.”

The man hangs up. The other men in the room are staring at him in astonishment, mouths wide open.

He turns and asks, “Anyone know whose phone this is?”

Have a good week, Dawn
