On the morning of Monday, January 20, 2020 the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service were conducting general patrol duties in the District of Tsi Snaihne (Akwesasne, Quebec).

At approximately 11:30 am, police observed a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle appeared to have been just removed from the ditch and was stationary in a driveway. As officers approached the vehicle to speak with the operator, it fled. Police officers were able to obtain a plate number and identify the driver.

Several minutes later, patrol officers located the suspect vehicle travelling on River Road. Patrol officers activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle then started swerving into the oncoming traffic lane toward another marked police cruiser.

Police followed the vehicle for approximately 4 kilometers until patrol officers were able to successfully deploy a tire deflation device. The suspect vehicle continued east bound on River Road with deflating tires. AMPS police officers followed closely behind. At one point, the suspect vehicle came to a dead end in the road way and reversed into the marked police cruiser, causing damage. The driver of the suspect vehicle then fled on foot and was immediately apprehended by officers.

A search of the suspect revealed a large quantity of pills and a white powdery substance which later tested positive for cocaine. Police seized a total of 3,175 pills of various shapes and sizes. The drugs seized will be sent to Health Canada for further testing and analysis.
