SIU Called in After #OPP Officer Assaulted in Hawkesbury 021020

(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On February 9, 2020 shortly after midnight, members of the Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Abbott Street in Hawkesbury.

There was an altercation as officers attempted to arrest an individual at the scene. Once arrested, the suspect was taken to the OPP Detachment.

Jean-Francois LALONDE, age 39 of Hawkesbury has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

  • Assault a peace office – sec. 270(1)(a)
  • Resist a peace officer – sec. 129(a)
  • Mischief – sec. 430(1)(d)

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear February 26, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal.

Several hours after later, while still at the detachment, the accused complained of an injury. They were transported to hospital for treatment and was later released.

The OPP has notified the Province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As a result the OPP will not be able to provide any further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
