OCTOBER 16, 2020 – Beak Lindsay Seniors Residence had a very energetic and hard working volunteer gardener this past season, Claudette Quesnel. The tenants said that she was out in the early spring preparing the flower beds for planting. The result was beautiful flowers all summer. The residents were very appreciative of all her work. Kudos Claudette.

Limericks are fun. Here is a famous one by Dixon Lanier Merritt, a famous poet and humourist:
A wonderful bird is the pelican.
His bill holds more than his belican.
He can take in his beak,
Enough food for a week.
But I’m damned if I see how the helican.
Lots of fun!!
My brother Ed Herrington is celebrating his 87th birthday this month. Ed has always been a great brother. He is so intelligent that we siblings nicknamed him, “Rocket Scientist”. When he was a young man he played baseball and hockey. I also remember when I was young listening to him playing a guitar and singing Eddie Arnold songs. He would get my little toddler brother Brian dancing to his music which was so much fun to watch.
Ed was married to Mary Stapley and they have 4 children and 7 grand children. Our wonderful and much loved Mary passed away a few years ago. Ed lives in Oakville.
Thanks Ed for all your love and support over the years. Your family and siblings love you dearly.
Handsome guy, eh? Happy Birthday Ed.
Photos are from my Mom’s scrapbook.
Halloween is fast approaching and the children are getting excited. We did also as kids, many moons ago now. I remember my older brothers bringing us younger ones around the block on Fourth Street between York and Augustus. Some kids wore those black Lone Ranger masks. The costumes were hand made mostly cowboys, ghosts, the Lone Ranger, Tonto ,gypsies, sports, dancing costumes and anything we could think up. It was so exciting and fun. We carried some bags for our big take which for some were pillow cases. We got candies, oranges, apples, homemade fudge in paper sacks and maybe even some boxes of Cracker Jacks. Yum!!! Sure was a lot of fun and we loved having all those treats to enjoy for days,( mother’s permission of when and how many, of course).
Beek Lindsay Seniors residence held their annual Thanksgiving Day Food Drive to benefit the Trinity Anglican Church’s food cupboard. The residents donated very generously. Claudette Quesnel took care of all the donated food and did a lot of work to make the drive a success.

A big thank you to all the residents who donated and another big thank you to Claudette.
Heard about three more people in senior’s residences who fell on the floor. One was able to get up right away luckily and one was found very soon after the fall. Another fell one evening and couldn’t get up and wasn’t rescued until the next morning. She is till in hospital. What can we do to get people living alone, especially seniors, some affordable life lines? Could save lives.
This cat gets weirder and cuter as he ages. Now he wants his water to come from bottled water, not the tap. Guess it tastes better. Awhile ago some friends dropped by and one mentioned about her cat drinking bottled water. She got a dish and a bottle of water and gave some to Tiger who lapped it up. Now if I am around and he only has tap water in his regular water dish, he comes after me . Luckily I get the message. If he sees my bottle of water on my night stand he tries to get on the stand and rubs the bottle, which of course goes flying on the floor. So from now on, bottled for Tiger. What a big baby!! I love him dearly.
Here are a few more lines from some children displays of their knowledge of the Bible sent in by a friend:
1) Moses died before he could reach Canada. Then Joshua led the Hebrews in the battle of Geritol.
2) The greatest miracle in the Bible is when Joshua told his son to stand still and he obeyed him.
3)Solomon, one of David’s sons, had 300 wives and 700 porcupines.
4) When Mary heard she was the mother of Jesus, she sang the Magna Carta.
5) When the three wise guys from the East side arrived they found Jesus with the manager.
6) Jesus was born because Mary had an immaculate contraption.
7) It was a miracle when Jesus rose from the dead and managed to get the tombstone off the entrance.
8) The people who followed the Lord were called the twelve desibels
9) Christians have only one spouse. This is called monotony.
Have a good week, Dawn
