May 26, 2022 – This is a time to watch for animals and children left in hot cars. Some people think that it is safe with the windows open, even a bit but only more hot air is going in. There is a lot of info about this problem on the internet. If you see any animals or children alone in a car in the heat, please call 911 or the police right away. Time is important to rescue them. Go to view Dr. Ernie Ward’s video on the internet where he locked himself in a hot car for 30 minutes. He explains as the minutes go by how hot it is getting. Very informative video.
Beek Lindsay Seniors Residence held a food drive recently to benefit Centre 105. A big thank you to the residents who donated food generously and to Claudette Quesnel who tirelessly looked after the donations every day. Kudos.

In my last column I had printed some lines of a poem about Mothers but did not know the author. I received an email comment on the column from Deborah R. Culver who is the author. She apparently wrote the poem following her 45 year old mother’s death in 1985. Deborah was only 23 at the time and realized that her mother had become her best friend. Terrible loss for her. We thank her for the poem which has meant so much to my readers.
A friend sent in this one line quote of Edgar Howe.” If you want to know how old a woman is, then ask her sister-in-law.”
I have a new sweet sweet love….for awhile, anyway. My great niece Penny came for a visit and brought her little dog, Charlie Brown. He is so cute. One day she went out for an hour and I babysat Charlie. He was on my lap but restless, waiting for her return. I patted him and talked to him but he was still up and down. So, I started to sing to him. I went through a large repertoire of songs such as Under the Boardwalk, Ebb Tide, Country Roads, Mull of Kintyre, Teddy Bears’ Picnic, the theme song from Exodus, Pretty woman, Sunday Morning Coming Down, and some French songs. He would start to give little noises every once in awhile. I wasn’t sure if he wanted me to stop singing or he was singing with me. He especially liked Elvis’s ” Teddy Bear”…I think.
He is so adorable and a darling little pet.
