Ingleside ON – Ingleside is a community that is only 50 some years old having been created at the time of the building of the Seaway, but it has its secrets and traditions.

Last week I went to the RO Craft and Trade show and this weekend I went to the Tree Lighting event. I have lived in Ingleside for 3 years now and have heard of the Tree Lighting but usually the day after the event was held. This year I was forewarned and I got hot chocolate. I think that means I have been accepted in the community.

Martin Timmers, owner of the Ingleside Foodland, told me that 10 years ago they started decorating a Christmas tree and held a small social event on the local tennis court for the kids. They continued to decorate a tree on the tennis court for the next 4 years but on the 5th year they teamed up with the Ingleside Fire Department who offered their garage for the social gathering and their pine tree in front of the station for the lights. Last night was the tenth year for the Tree Lighting and it was a well attended community event.
The firehouse was packed with parents and children, carolers, firemen, volunteers from the various sponsors and even politicians, MPP Jim Brownell, Mayor Bryan McGillis, and Deputy Mayor Tammy Hart just to name a few. Those attending were encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items for the Osnabruck Food & Toy Drive.

Special thanks go out to Kathy and Marvin Antoine who donated their wagon and horses to shuttle Santa to the Tree Lighting. I think his reindeer are resting up for their long journey on the 24th.
The sponsors of the Tree Lighting were:
- South Stormont Chamber of Commerce
- Ontario Power Generation
- Ingleside Fire Department
- Women’s Auxiliary
- Ingleside Foodland
- Ingleside Home Hardware
