CFN – Danny Gauthier is your typical 9yr old boy, yet he has faced medical challenges since he was 6 months old. He suffers from a form of Mediterranean Fever, which leaves him with spikes of fever, vomiting, stomach and joint pain. This has resulted in several testing session at hospitals in Torontoand the United States.
SD&G OPP received an invitation in the spring of this year to attend a fundraising event inAlexandria. The night was to assist the family to meet the high costs of travelling and the purchase of medication. It was announced that night that Danny would be SD&G OPP “Detachment Commander for a Day”.
On his 9th birthday, July 22, 2011, SD&G OPP Community Services Officer Cst Joel Doiron travelled to Long Sault with Danny to fulfill the detachment’s commitment. Danny met Detachment Commander, Inspector Mike McDonell and Staff Sgt’s Brendan MacDonald and Stephanie Patterson. Once he took over the helm of the detachment, he received a tour of the office, visiting the cells, property room and sat on an OPP Motorcycle. In the afternoon, Danny and his family boarded an OPP vessel with SD&G OPP Marine operators and toured theSt-LawrenceRiver.
It was a pleasure to have Danny be part of our team and we wish him and his family all the best!
Thanks Danny…
Danny looks “tickled pink”. He is going to have great fun sharing this story with his friends and family. All the very best to Danny.
