The following details are seizures from November 20th to November 26th, 2009. One photo from the seizure is attached. A total of 1,150 cartons of contraband cigarettes seized and one person arrested:
On November 21st, 2009, at 4:30 am, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police observed two vehicles departing the parking lot of a local restaurant near the St. Lawrence River in South Glengarry, Ontario. An older model Chevrolet Venture van was missing its front Ontario licence plate. When the driver saw the marked police vehicle, he sped away.
Eventually the van stopped and two males fled on foot. The police dog services from the Ontario Provincial Police was used to locate one of the males. RCMP officers were contacted to assist and seized 1,150 cartons of Discount Full Flavor cigarettes located inside the van.
A 49 year old male from Cornwall, Ontario was arrested and faces a charge for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped. He was released to appear at court at a later date.
