T Storms to Break Heat Wave as Cornwall Ontario Hits 38c AUG 11, 2016

Over 60mm of rain and thunder storms are predicted in the Cornwall Ontario area between Friday and Sunday as temperatures and humidity drop to more seasonal norms.

Heat Warning in effect for:

  • Cornwall – Lancaster
  • Maxville – Alexandria
  • Morrisburg – Long Sault
  • Winchester – Newington

Warm and humid conditions are expected to persist tonight, with overnight lows in the low twenties.

A cold front, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, is expected to move through the region Friday. Depending on the timing of the front, the heat warning criteria may need to be ended Friday.

Watch for symptoms of heat illness, which include
– dizziness or fainting, nausea or vomiting
– headache
– rapid breathing and heartbeat
– extreme thirst and
– decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.
If you experience any of these symptoms during a heat event, immediately move to a cool place and drink liquids. Water is best.

Frequently visit neighbours, friends and older family members, especially those who are chronically ill, to make sure that they are cool and hydrated.

Heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
