THIS WEEK IN POLICING
In the week of August 15th to August 22nd, Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to 180 occurrences. One break and enter attempt incident was reported. One assault incident and four incidents of theft were reported. In the last week, officers investigated two impaired driving related incident. Out of these 180 occurrences, 17 concluded with charges.
ARREST DURING EXECUTION OF WARRANT
(ALFRED-PLANTAGENET, ON) – On August 16th, 2016, members of the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) – Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) – Community Drug Action Team (CDAT), assisted by the East Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) Search Warrant in the Alfred-Plantagenet Township, resulting in the seizure of cannabis marihuana bud and cannabis marihuana resin.
Kevin GOYETTE-LAPENSEE (21 yrs) of Alfred-Plantagenet was arrested and charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Actwith the following section:
– Possession of a Schedule II substance for the purpose of Trafficking- under 3 kg (2 counts)
He was released and scheduled to appear at court on October 05th, 2016 in L’Orignal.
IMPAIRED DRIVERS
(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Thursday evening August 18th, close to 11:00 pm, Hawkesbury OPP Sergeant Alain Potvin was on patrol on Main Street in the Town of Hawkesbury when he intercepted a 2013 Hyundai Veloster.
Interaction with the male driver gave the officer reason to believe that he had operated his motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.
Consequently, the driver, Marc-Andre PROULX (21 yrs) of Grenville, Quebec, was charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:
– Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood
The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.
He was later released and scheduled to appear at court on September 07th, 2016 in L’Orignal.

(CHAMPLAIN, ON) – On August 20th, shortly after 3:00 am, Hawkesbury OPP Constable Bradley Giroux intercepted a black 2014 Honda Civic on Pearl Road in the Champlain Township.
Interaction with the female driver gave the officer reason to believe that she had operated her motor vehicle with blood alcohol content over 80 mgs.
Consequently, the driver, Stephanie NEMETH (25 yrs) of Orleans, was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:
– Driving with More than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.
The vehicle was seized for 7 days and the driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 90 days.
She was later released and scheduled to appear at court on September 21st, 2016 in L’Orignal.
TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES
(HAWKESBURY, ON) – On Thursday August 18th, at 1:15 pm, Constable Marc Lauzon intercepted a dark blue 2003 Chevrolet Impala while on patrol on Main Street East in Hawkesbury.
The traffic stop resulted in the male passenger being in possession of Cocaine.
The passenger, Julien SANSFACON (23 yrs) of Nation Municipality, was arrested and charged under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act with section:
– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Further investigation revealed that SANSFACON was also in breach of court conditions. He was consequently charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with the following section:
– Fail to Comply with Recognizance
He was kept for a bail hearing at L’Orignal court. The accused was later released on a Recognizance of Bail pending his next court date scheduled on August 31st 2016 at L’Orignal court.
BARN FIRE
A barn fire filled with hay erupted at a property situated on Concession Road 20 in the Nation Municipality on Sunday evening August 21st, at approximately 10:00 pm.
To assist the fire department, the non-busy road remained closed to traffic until the next morning.
Foul play is not suspected at the moment.
