Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 396 calls for service over the weekend of December 8-10, 2017. Of these, 273 calls occurred in the city central area, 75 in the west end, 9 in the east end, and 6 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 2 neighbour dispute calls
  • 15 noise complaints
  • 1 trouble with kids call
  • 4 missing person calls
  • 7 Mental Health Act calls
  • 5 medical assist calls
  • 31 assist citizen calls
  • 6 break and enter calls
  • 31 theft calls
  • 6 shoplifting calls
  • 15 mischief calls
  • 2 fraud calls
  • 14 motor vehicle collisions
  • 1 impaired driving call
  • 6 parking/vehicle complaints
  • 11 driving complaints
  • 1 traffic concern
  • 37 suspicious activity calls

  • 6 drug calls

There were 21 individuals arrested over the weekend of December 8-10, 2017 including 16 men and 5 women, between 16 and 60 years of age, for the following: mischief, assault, theft, possession of break-in tools, obstruct police, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon, causing a disturbance, resist arrest, utter threats, breach of peace, public intoxication, breach undertaking, breach recognizance, and breach probation. Four persons were arrested on warrants.

Man Facing Criminal Charges after Running Red Light on Bicycle

A 26-year-old man of no fixed address is facing criminal charges after lying to an officer when he was stopped for running a red light.

On December 8, 2017 at approximately 8:30 p.m. the accused was riding a bicycle eastbound on Princess Street. A patrol officer observed the accused ride through a red light at Clergy Street. The officer stopped the accused for running the red light and the accused verbally identified himself. As the officer investigated he discovered the accused was providing a false name and subsequently placed him under arrest.

During a search, the accused was found to be carrying a large kitchen knife concealed within some clothing in his backpack. The accused also had a small amount of suspected marijuana. The accused true identity was determined and he was found to be on conditions not to possess any weapons.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with obstruct police, breach recognizance and possession of a controlled substance.

Copper Thief Caught in the Act

A 31-year-old local man stealing copper wire was caught hiding in a metal bin.

On December 9, 2017 at approximately 4:00 a.m. police were called to a facility on Lappans Lane for a theft in progress. The male could be seen on video surveillance stealing copper wire from inside the compound. Prior to police arrival the male hid, but was found inside a metal bin by officers.

The accused was arrested and during a search of his backpack, officers found wire cutters and other tools commonly used for break and enter.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with theft and possession of break-in tools.

Woman Facing Numerous Charges after Parking Lot Incident

A 29-year-old local woman is facing numerous charges after throwing a fit in a parking lot and pulling a knife.

On December 8, 2017 shortly after 7:00 p.m. the complainant backed his vehicle into a parking spot in a mid-town apartment building lot. While parking, his lights shone into a parked car where the accused and her sister were sitting. As the complainant exited his vehicle the accused approached and began to yell, swear and make obscene gestures towards him. The complainant ignored the accused and went into the apartment building, but when he looked outside he observed the accused trying the door handles of his vehicle. The complainant went back to his vehicle at which time the accused removed a small folding knife from her pocket. She opened the blade and locked it in place while staring at him. The accused then walked away when her sister called out from another nearby apartment building.

Police responded and located the accused in the hallway of the apartment building. The accused was immediately belligerent with officer, yelling and swearing profanities. The accused attempted to resist arrest and officers were required to use force to handcuff her. The accused attempted to kick officer and continued to struggle and swear.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day. Prior to lodging in cells the accused punched and broke the glass enclosure of a fire extinguisher.

The accused was charged with possession of a weapon, causing a disturbance, resist arrest, mischief and breach undertaking.



Man Arrested after Attacking Common-Law Twice in One Night

A 34-year-old local man has been arrested after attacking his common-law twice in one night.

On December 10, 2017 the victim returned home from work and attempted to discuss money and children issues with the accused. The discussion turned into a heated argument and the victim went to the bedroom and closed the door. The victim could hear the accused approaching and she put her back against the door in an attempt to keep him out. The accused forced his way in and began choking the victim on the bed until she was able to kick him off.

The victim left the apartment but when she returned the argument resumed. Once again the victim fled to the bedroom and once again the accused force his way in and began choking her until she was able to break free and call 911.

Police located both parties still in the residence. The accused was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

The accused was charged with two counts of assault.
