Calls for Service

Kingston Police had 119 calls for service during the 24 hour period starting from 5:00 a.m. on December 21, 2017. Of these, 77 calls occurred in the city central area, 25 in the west end, 4 in the east end, and 1 north of Highway 401. Some of these included:

  • 3 domestic calls
  • 2 harassment calls
  • 3 fight/disturbance calls
  • 7 undesirable calls
  • 1 customer trouble call
  • 2 alarm calls
  • 1 neighbour dispute call
  • 2 noise complaints
  • 2 missing person calls
  • 1 Mental Health Act call
  • 12 assist citizen calls
  • 1 break and enter call
  • 5 theft calls
  • 2 shoplifting calls
  • 1 theft of vehicle call
  • 4 mischief calls
  • 2 fraud calls
  • 11 motor vehicle collisions
  • 3 impaired driving calls
  • 2 parking/vehicle complaints
  • 4 driving complaints
  • 12 suspicious activity calls

There were 5 individuals arrested within the last 24 hours including 3 men and 2 women, between 16 and 58 years of age, for the following: impaired driving, operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol, possession of stolen property, theft, possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication, breach undertaking, and breach probation.

Shoplifter Caught When Trying to Steal a Cart Full of Goods

A 41-year-old local woman was caught shoplifting as she tried to walk out of the store with a shopping cart full of merchandise.

On December 21, 2017 at approximately 9:15 a.m. the accused entered a store in the 1000 block of Princess Street. After a short time in the store, the accused fled with a bag full of stolen items of clothing. A couple hours later the accused entered a store on bath road while carrying the bag of stolen clothing form the previous store. The accused filled a shopping cart with clothing and then attempted to simply wheel the cart right past the cashier area without paying. Staff stopped the accused and after a brief struggle she was taken to the office to await police.

Police searched a bag the accused had with her and discovered the stolen merchandise from the store on Princess Street. The accused was transported to police headquarters where she was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.

During a search of the accused, officers found a small quantity of hydro morphine pills, heroin and crystal methamphetamine concealed on her person.

The accused was charged with possession of stolen property, theft, three counts of possession of a controlled substance, two counts of breach probation.

Woman Rolls Vehicle but Drives Away when it Lands back on its Tires

A 47-year-old local woman was arrested for impaired driving after she drove away from a rollover with an extensively damaged vehicle.

On December 21, 2017 at approximately 9:30 p.m. the accused was driving southbound on Bayridge Drive. Witnesses reported the accused was traveling at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles on the right. When the accused struck a curb she lost control and witnesses reported the vehicle then rolled but ended up back on all 4 wheels. Airbags deployed, the rear passenger door panel was torn off and the brakes seized, yet the accused accelerated away and continued southbound.

Witnesses contacted police and followed as the accused who was seen swerving all over the road and crossing the centre line. When the accused turned left onto Chelsea Road she drove up on the curb and the vehicle became stuck. Witnesses reported the accused exited her vehicle and attempted to push the car off the curb, until police arrived.

The accused was not injured and was arrested for impaired driving. The accused was transported to police headquarters where she provided two breath samples. The accused was found to have just under 2 ½ times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The accused was charged with impaired driving and operating a vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol.

The accused was later released with a future court date. Her driver’s licence is automatically suspended for 90 days and would face a one year suspension if convicted. The vehicle was seized and impounded for seven days, with the accused being responsible for all fees and fines.

Police Looking to Identify Theft and Assault Suspect

On December 9, 2017 at approximately 1:00 p.m. the suspect attended a clothing store in the downtown area. The suspect was stopped by staff and found with merchandise concealed in her backpack. The suspect then threw hot coffee at the staff member before running out the door.

The suspect was captured on video surveillance purchasing her coffee just prior to attending the clothing store.
