CFN – Alas, poor Scott Gomez has not scored a goal in one full year; a span of over 50 games. It’s amazing how such a talented player can fall into the pits so quickly.
Today is the one year anniversary of his drought as pointed out, and celebrated by a website and facebook page.
The Birthday took some of the zing out of a Home win over the Jets; a 3-0 shut out by Carey Price. Mr. Gomez played a little over 10 minutes with no shots on goal thus showing the importance of the date by Mr. Gomez himself. Montreal took 23 shots on the game.
Montreal now has a goal of getting a really good draft pick and are 27th as of this story within only a few points.
Time to really tank out and hope that whoever is in charge at the draft picks really really well.
Ottawa also is struggling of late and needs a kick start. Toronto is really happy that James Reimer is back and focused as the goalie stopped 49 shots in Saturday’s 5-0 win over the Sens.
New Jersey is red hot led by Ilya Kovalchuk who actually notched a freaking Gordie Howe Hat Trick during their 6-4 road win against Philly!

This NHL season is more of a marathon than anything as teams are losing players to concussion at rates I’ve never seen before. Some pundits are calling for a return of the Centre Line to slow things down. Not sure if that’s a solution. Maybe some simply need to keep their heads up a bit more?
As I look at this morning’s standings the teams at the top generally have been hit the least by injury. That’s not to take anything away from their achievments; but it certainly does say something about the value of avoiding injury.
It should be very interesting to see which pieces which teams add. Personally I’m not a big fan of player rentals. Montreal for example rented Domenic Moore for a 2nd round pick. They also selected PK Subban with a 2nd. If you’re going the rental route it has to be a game changer because the price can be huge for the long term health of your franchise.
