Kern Saxton’s Sushi Girl Hits the Mark – Genre Hit Review by Jamie Gilcig – Tony Todd, Mark Hamill, Noah Hathway Shine!

CFN – I had a lot of fun tonight watching Sushi Girl, finally!    I sat down with some of the cast, producers, and director Kern Saxton at the Fantasia Film Festival, but tonight I finally got to sit in a dark room and watch  Mr. Saxton’s first feature!

Sushi Girl is a genre film.  It’s a throw back that doffs its hat at a lot of eras and films, but in this age of high end 3D & CGI Sushi Girl digs deep into character and acting.  First time feature director Kern Saxton gives his cast the time to really develop their roles and shine.

And the cast had a chance to shine; even new comer Cortney Palm who spends most of the film lying quietly on a table nekkid covered in Sushi gets to have her The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover moment .

Tony Todd gets to shine and use that gravely voice of his, but the real pyrotechnics belong to Noah Hathaway(Never Ending Story) , making in his first starring role as an adult; James Duval reminded me a ton of a young Robert Blake, while Andy Mackenzie really torqued it up.

Mark Hamill, yes Luke Skywalker and the Joker himself, camped it up while being truly vicious.    Danny Trejo got to brandish his machete and the legendary Sonny Chiba joined vets Michael Biehn & Jeff Fahey.

Sushi Girl will have a fun run in theatres when it comes out, but it’s going to be one of those movies that people talk about.

If you love this genre you have to see Sushi Girl!

I give Sushi Girl a rating 3 Bullets out of 4!
