The Power of Beauty by Julie Bilotta – The Benefits of Micro Needling 081617

Cornwall Ontario – I’ve always been obsessed with skin care because it’s so important for maintaining a radiant appearance. When done properly, skin care really makes a huge difference!

Specifically, I’ve always been into anti-aging products and procedures. I’ve always used serums and creams aimed at age-prevention and, as I’ve said previously, I’ve also done a lot of microdermabrasion and laser facials.

I tried microneedling for the first time and it definitely is a game changer!

Vogue Magazine is even calling it the next big trend in anti aging!

On top of being amazing for anti-aging, micro needling also benefits your skin in many other ways:

For instance, in a 2009 study on the effects of microneedling, nearly 100 percent of acne-scarred participants reported a marked reduction in the visibility of their acne scars.

Also, a 2015 study showed microneedling to be a promising treatment for the blotchy, brownish facial pigmentation that comes with melasma, a chronic skin condition that can affect anyone but that’s particularly common in pregnant women.

On top of all that, a 2015 study in the International Journal of Dermatology confirms that microneedling is a new way to achieve “skin rejuvenation, tightening, and scar remodeling” and that it offers a “simple and effective treatment for photo-aged skin.”

Only 4-8% of the serums that we tend to spend so much on actually penetrate the skin. Studies confirm that micro needling is an additional treatment that can actually help these topical medications penetrate skin more effectively, which allows you to benefit from the full effect of the products that you use!

Many doctors have even gone as far as to say that this combination is the most effective procedure for stopping fine lines and wrinkles in their tracks!

Those of you who are not familiar with the procedure are probably wondering just exactly what micro needling is and what exactly it does, so let’s cover that. From there, I can speak about my personal experience with the procedure!

Micro needling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with a pen-shaped wand that has tiny sterile needles at its tip. You’re probably assuming that the treatment is painful, but you’d be surprised to know that it’s actually painless. Before the procedure itself begins, a numbing gel is applied all over the face for approximately 5 to 10 minutes, after which point the wand goes over your entire face. As the needles break the skin, your body’s naturally reaction is to start healing itself, which then stimulates cell turnover and begins to increase collagen and elastin production, thus helping to reverse and prevent further signs of aging. Collagen and elastin are both key to having youthful-looking skin.

If you have severe acne scaring and red marks, micro needling will diminish their appearance. The procedure is actually about twice as effective as a laser treatments are because it’s able to treat deep acne scarring beneath the surface of the skin.

If you are someone who has sun damage and hyperpigmentation, again, this procedure is totally for you!

If you have more mature skin, not only does this treatment have the benefits of smoothing out the skin, but it also actually tightens loose skin, leaving it smooth and fresh.

If you have large pores, again, this procedure is definitely something you would benefit from because the production of collagen actually works to shrink your pores and plump up the skin! Honestly, who doesn’t want smaller pores?

And last, but not least, micro needling can be done not just on your face, but all over your body as well, helping both to tighten the skin and to remove and reduce the appearance of stretch marks!

So, all in all, my personal experience with micro needling was great. I mainly tried it for anti aging and, basically, skin rejuvenation. I can honestly say that it didn’t hurt whatsoever and that I really liked the idea that were was virtually no down time The very next day, my skin felt so smooth and fresh and had a beautiful glow. It’s definitely much firmer, but the results take 5 to 6 weeks to show their full potential!

All that said, since the skin is going to be somewhat sensitive after having the procedure done, you shouldn’t tan for at least a week because you could easily damage your skin, and you should avoid using makeup for a few days.

In the end, micro needling is something that I will be continuing with and that I would definitely recommend to anyone striving for smoother, more youthful skin. I especially love the fact that it not only caters to specific conditions but also has benefits for all skin types!

It should also be noted that you may need fewer or more sessions depending on your skin’s characteristics.

Contacting The Brow Shack here in Cornwall is probably the best way of finding out your needs, as I had a wonderful experience there and definitely feel that they would be most able to assess the problem and give you the right information about the best treatment for your skin.
