The following details are seizures from August 28th until September 3rd:
On September 1st, 2009, officers from the Cornwall RCMP Detachment seized 6,000 resealable bags of contraband cigarettes from a 2002 and a 2003 Buick Rendezvous parked on a South Glengarry property. The drivers were not located and the investigation continues. RCMP officers also seized the vehicles.
On September 2nd, 2009, RCMP officers seized 3,000 resealable bags of contraband cigarettes located inside the sleeping area of a 6.6 metre Thompson Model boat. Also seized was a 1997 Dodge Ram pick-up truck and the boat trailer. This seizure occurred as the boat was being pulled out of the water at a Marina located in South Glengarry, Ontario. A 36 year old male from Apple Hill, Ontario and a 41 year old male from Clarence Creek, Ontario face charges for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped Section 32(1) of the Excise Act 2001 and will appear in court at a later date. Please note that our officers have also seized hockey bags and garbage bags containing contraband cigarettes located on the shore or on pathways in the City of Cornwall that were left behind by suspected smugglers.
