PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT FOR AKWESASNE YOUTH FLAME ATTENDANT,
COMMUNITY TORCHBEARER AND HONORARY ELDER FIRE KEEPER
FOR VANCOUVER 2010 OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY
AKWESASNE – The Akwesasne Olympic Torch Relay Organizing Committee will be joined by the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club in announcing three Akwesasne community members selected to take part in the 2010 Winter Olympic Torch Relay. A Community Torchbearer, Honorary Elder Fire Keeper, and an Aboriginal Youth Flame Attendant will be announced at 4:00pm on Monday, October 26th at the Akwesasne Boys & Girls Club. An Akwesasne youth was selected to be one of two Aboriginal youths that will travel to Greece next week and bring the Olympic Flame to Canada.

WHY: The selection of Akwesasne community members is part of VANOC’s partnership with the Four Host First Nations to increase the level of Aboriginal participation in the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia. The Mohawk community of Akwesasne was selected as one of 119 First Nation communities that will take part in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay.
