Full-day Learning Program coming this fall – by Markus Noé
Cornwall Ontario – Starting in September, parents in Ontario will be able to enroll their children ages 4-5 into a Full-day learning program.
This program will be offered at five area schools. There will also be a before and after school program made available for a small fee with subsidies available.
The early learning program will give parents an opportunity to give their children a head start in learning valuable skills such as, reading writing and math. This program has also been established to help provide a smoother transition into grade school.
With the high cost of living these days’ parents are unable to sacrifice as much time away from work as before. This Full-day learning program combined with the before and after school program will allow parents who need to work full time the opportunity to do so. Also parents will have the peace of mind that their children are in a safe learning environment. The price of the before and after school program will be determined by each individual school board, and will be headed by early childhood educators.
As of September, there will be 35,000 four and five years’ olds in nearly 600 schools throughout Ontario. The provincial government as set in motion a plan that will have all schools in Ontario offering the program by the 2015- 2016 school year.
Local MPP Jim Brownell believes this is an important addition to our educational system when he said, “We want to ensure that we give our children every opportunity for success and full day learning will provide the first step to the best education possible.”
The Minister of Education Kathleen Wynne also acknowledges the value of this program when she said, “By giving our four- and five-year-olds a stronger start in school, we’re giving them a stronger start in life. Full-day early learning will help more children, their families and Ontario’s communities thrive.”
The Schools that will have the Full-day early learning program in this area will be Immaculate Conception, Cornwall ,de l’Ange-Gardien, North Lancaster ,East Front Public School, Cornwall, Gladstone Public School, Cornwall, Nationview Public School, South Mountain.
