This must feel how those Penguins fans felt while Marc Andre Fleury was figuring out whether he was a good or great goalie during his early years.
Some goalies like Marty Brodeur have talent, poise, maturity and all those great qualities. Some have them but don’t use them; and some don’t have many of them.
Carey Price has talent. Nobody can dispute that, but it’s not transferring to success at the NHL; at least at this point. It must make poor Bob Gainey a bit loopy.
Jaroslav Halak isn’t as big as Mr. Price. He’s not as talented, yet this team seems to win more when he’s between the pipes. Last night, at the Bell Centre Price gave up two early 1st period goals. The team came back thanks to a manly effort by Benoit Pouliot, but lost in OT.
Those results have to change for this team and excuses are for losers. And if Coach Martin shortened his bench any more than he did last night he’d be only playing with two lines. I think there’s starting to be an aura of desperation in this year’s squad. Bob is going to have to decide very soon if he’s a buyer or a seller.
Vancouver definitely will be buyers this year as they edged Edmonton 3-2 in OT last night. They definitely are going in the right direction and Montreal native Roberto Luongo earned the win.
