Local “punk rock and ska” band Winston Marley will be at Dream Builder’s Studios this Friday. They will be recording two tracks that will be used for fishrizzo production’s film “10 Days Across Canada”. Previous projects by fishrizzo include 86400 and Treasures of the Lost Villages.
Winston Marley has been together for the past two years and has been quickly growing in popularity. Ron Piquette who plays drums for the band explains how Winston Marley got onto the “10 Days Across Canada” soundtrack when he said, “I was one of the 4 guys that made the movie. But like any project it wasn’t guaranteed that we would have a song on the soundtrack. We had to submit the songs and John and Frank happened to liked a couple of them”
Joel Plamondon singer/songwriter and guitarist explains how to stay informed with everything going on with the band and to find out about upcoming shows when he said, “fans can go to our myspace page at www.myspace.com/winstonmarleymusic or check our facebook group. A website will be up shortly.” Winston Marley plays a lot of shows at local bars, these include La Maison about twice a month, Bojangles, Remington’s and once a month they play at the James St. Pub in Ottawa.
Marc Brault, Winston Marley’s bassist talks about the possibility of releasing a CD when he said, “Eventually that’s the plan, right now we’re just going to focus on getting these 2 songs for the movie recorded. We have approx 18-20 that we’ve written throughout the years. We just need to weed out the bad ones and we should have enough material for an album.”
The final member of the group is Norm Cheffer. He plays djembe, bongos, and percussion. If interested in seeing Winston Marley play live they have four shows this month.
