Sens Edge Caps in OT 6-5 – Pierre Gauthier Grabs Dominic Moore from Florida for a 2nd Round Draft Pick – February 12, 2010

Hmm……Dominic Moore, as a rent a player, for a 2nd rounder?   Pierre Gauthier’s first acquisition as Habs GM seems a bit pricey for the one season 7 team NHL’er.

When you play for 7 teams in a short period of time it usually means that you’re most likely a head case with talent or really in demand.   Could this be a precursor of Tomas Plekanec being traded away?   Mr. Moore brings some face off skills and some good defensive play to the table.   He’s not much of a point getter and doesn’t have an offensive upside.  He sorta seems like a poor man’s Mike Peca.   He seems like a good spare part and everyone knows that good teams need spare parts.   Of course they do need 2nd round draft picks too.

The Habs also called up PK Subban which I’m not sure is the way to go.   It should be an interesting rush to the play offs.

In Ottawa, where they definitely know they’re going to the play offs and are playing some inspiring hockey, the Sens held on to beat the Washington Capitals 6-5.   The Caps seem to like fire wagon hockey and while coming back from behind is the norm for the team it doesn’t always happen.

Their goal tending of late seems to be wanting.  Interesting numbers; Mike Fisher had zero points but was plus two.   Jason Spezza had three points but was minus two.    Who had the better night?   Alex “Big Dawg” Kovalev chipped in a goal and assist leading the team with five shots for the night as he quietly puts his numbers up.

Vancouver shut out  Florida 3-0.
