Cornwall ON – For the second year in a row the Montreal Canadiens have backed their way into the play offs. This time the team blew a 3-2 lead giving up a short handed goal in the 3rd period and then losing in Over time to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
This is definitely a good omen for a team that wants to sip from Lord Stanley’s Cup. There are many question marks right now, but here’s a run down on the squad.
A) If Messers Halak or Price don’t stand on their head it’s early golf time for les Boys.
B) The top six up front isn’t that top. Half of them are not playing up to their capabilities right now and in the play offs size does count.
C) The D is not pretty. It’s not gruesome, but at this point all a team has to do is key on Markov who has never been a play off star and you’ve pretty much neutralized the Habs.
D) Coaching. I haven’t picked on coach Jacques Martin much this year as he’s been as advertised. He’s taken a hodge podge roster and got into the play offs. He hasn’t really developed any of the stars and has relied heavily on rolling out his top talent when not injured and counting on his veteran players. His play off track record doesn’t inspire one to rush out and bet on the Habs for future rounds. It’s hard to “play it safe” with this core of talent and as fast as the team can be at times they still haven’t figured out how to draw enough penalties to make their power play unit increase its ice time.
Earlier this week Montreal actually had a shot at facing Buffalo or Ottawa in the play offs. Now they’re looking at Pittsburgh or Washington which all but guarantees them early tee off times.
In other NHL News it looks like a lease deal is in place to attempt to keep the Coyotes in Phoenix. LINK
The Sens have lost $5 Million Dollar Man Alex “Big Dawg” Kovalev to surgery. The forward needs to have his ACL fixied. LINK
And let’s make some magic and make sure Pat Burns gets into the Hall of Fame. His coaching record speaks for itself.
What do you think Canada? Who’s going to get through the first round of the play offs? Post your comments below.

Love coming across ignorant writing like this
Looking at every point you make in your “news” article – you dont know hockey and you dont know the Habs – let me guess, “Leaf Lover?
A) If Messers Halak or Price don’t stand on their head it’s early golf time for les Boys.
**Either could have got the job done – you are wrong.
B) The top six up front isn’t that top. Half of them are not playing up to their capabilities right now and in the play offs size does count.
**Who had the most goals in the NHL Playoffs? Cammalleri
C) The D is not pretty. It’s not gruesome, but at this point all a team has to do is key on Markov who has never been a play off star and you’ve pretty much neutralized the Habs.
**Markov went down to injury, and the Habs were not neutralized at all, maybe you missed the playoffs? Love that shot blocking too, did you not?

**Martin did indeed develop his stars, and his lesser lights into a great post season run

**Pretty much guarantees what, an early tee off time for both Ovie & the Caps and Sid & the Pens
**Enjoy watching them again this season
“You Suck”, you suck. Did it take you 4 months to think of a reply? If you read this website you would know that our editor is a true Habs fan. He bleeds pea soup. He would personally set your car on fire in Montreal after a Habs decisive win (or loss)……OK maybe he wouldn’t actually do that but he would think about it. He lives in Ontario now and knows that burning cars is bad.
Personally I think all you Habs fans are a bunch of whinny cry babys who can’t seem to agree with why Montreal sucks.
Hi Reg
We might not know why the Habs sucks but there are decades of reasons why the Leafs suck.
