CORNWALL REGIONAL TASK FORCE CONTINUES TO DISRUPT SUPPLY ROUTES OF CONTRABAND SMUGGLERS

CORNWALL ON The Cornwall Regional Task Force (CRTF) continues to identify, target and disrupt supply routes used by organized crime groups who attempt to smuggle illicit commodities into our communities.  Between April 9th, 2010 and April 21st, 2010, officers from the CRTF made seizures in the following regions:

  • 1 seizure in North Glengarry, Ontario
  • 4 seizures in Cornwall, Ontario
  • 6 seizures in South Glengarry, Ontario

These seizures resulted in the arrest of eight individuals

    3 from Cornwall, Ontario,
    1 from Snye, Quebec,
    1 from Hogansburg, New York,
    1 from South Stormont, Ontario,
    1 from Ottawa, Ontario

All are facing charges for possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped according to the Excise Act 2001 and/or under authority of the Provincial Tobacco Tax Act.

And

23 year old Jamie Dionne from Dieppe, New Brunswick, who is charged with possession of a tobacco product not properly stamped according to the Excise Act 2001.

Items Seized:

• 5 vehicles described as 2000 Oldsmobile Alero, 2009 Dodge Caravan, 2002 Chevrolet Venture van, 1997 Ford F-150, 2003 GMC Sonoma
• 15,350 assorted re-sealable bags each containing 200 cigarettes
• 280 kilograms of fine cut tobacco
• $10,680 CND currency

“The Cornwall Regional Task Force continues to make significant seizures of illicit tobacco on the shores of the St. Lawrence River from Cornwall to South Glengarry”, said Sgt. Public Meetings

Those residents who are affected and concerned are invited to attend public information meetings hosted by the CRTF on the following dates:

Tuesday April 27th, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the Precious Blood Parish located at 18314 County Road 2, Glen Walter, Ontario

Thursday April 29th, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church located at 36 Oak Street, Lancaster, Ontario

  1. They also continue to piss away billions upon billions of taxpayers money trying to fight a situation that the government created in the first place.. The answer is so simple, but don’t do that otherwise the taxpayer might actually be able to live and get some real benefits for their money!
