Cornwall ON – David Murphy is running for election to City Council this year and we’ve sent out our mini Proust Quiz to him and several other candidates.
Here are his answers:
CWFN: What would be the biggest surprise that people don’t really know about your?
DM: I like people’s reaction when I tell them that I’ve performed at Yuk Yuk’s in Ottawa after winning a local contest for amateur comedians. I have performed in local theatre and murder mystery fundraisers. Although, I think broadway is safe…for now.
CWFN: What makes you passionate for being Mayor or Councilor?
DM: I care deeply about Cornwall, its residents and the image the city needs to project as we move forward. I’d be more than grateful for the opportunity to represent Cornwall residents as we lay the foundation for future generations and leave a legacy not a mortgage.
CWFN: What’s been the weirdest thing to ever happen to you in your career?
DM: On two separate occasions, once while calling a CJHL hockey game in Ottawa, I was mistaken for somebody named Steve. There’s a man named Steve in Ottawa who has the unfortunate luck to look alot like me.
CWFN: When you were young did you ever think you’d be Mayor or Councilor of a City? What advice can you give to young people when it comes to thinking about their future?
DM: My friends and family used to make reference to me someday being a good politician as I would mediate their disagreements and come to a resolution. My advice would be to ensure no bridges ever get burned as you never know where the path of life will lead you.
CWFN:If you could change one thing about Cornwall/Municipality what would it be?
DM: Cornwall’s image outside the city. In my business travels, I’m constantly speaking about all the progress that Cornwall has and continues to make. There’s still plenty of work to do but we’re on the right path.
CWFN: What do you want to be remembered most for one day?
DM: I’d like to be remembered as one of Cornwall’s most positive ambassadors! We have a fantastic community with so much potential. Let’s reach it together!
