Eight Local Businesses Receive Workplace Health Gold Awards – November 4, 2010 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – The Eastern Ontario Health Unit is pleased to announce that eight local businesses received the Workplace Health Gold Award on November 2, 2010. This year, a total of 14 workplaces within the five Eastern Counties were given awards in the Gold, Silver and Bronze levels.
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit’s Workplace Health Award is granted to workplaces that exceed expectations in encouraging their employees to develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle. “It’s incredible to see the creative ways in which local workplaces are making employees’ health and wellness a priority,” said Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health. “As our winners already know, a workplace wellness program offers many benefits including increased employee morale and an improved ability to attract and retain key people.”
Congratulations go out to this year’s Gold level winners:

  • Cornwall Community Hospital
  • Cornwall Electric
  • Glengarry Inter-Agency Group Inc.
  • Glengarry Memorial Hospital
  • Social and Housing Services Department
  • St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation
  • Tulmar Safety Systems Inc.
The Health Unit also congratulates the Silver and Bronze level winners. The Silver level winners were the City of Clarence-Rockland, Kraft Canada Inc., Sabic Innovative Plastics.  The Bronze level winners were Amsterdam Products, Carefor – Glengarry Outreach Seniors’ Services and Scotiabank Rockland.
Huit  milieux de travail régionaux reçoivent le niveau or de la Distinction de mérite!

Le Bureau de santé de l’est de l’Ontario est fier d’annoncer que huit milieux de travail régionaux ont été récipiendaires du niveau or de la Distinction de mérite. Le 2 novembre, lors de la présentation des prix, quatorze milieux de travail dans les cinq Comtés de l’Est se sont vus accorder des distinctions de mérite dans les catégories or, argent et bronze.

La Distinction de mérite pour la santé en milieu de travail du Bureau de santé de l’est de l’Ontario est décernée aux milieux de travail qui dépassent les attentes en encourageant leurs employés à développer et à maintenir un style de vie sain. « Le niveau de créativité démontré de la part des  milieux de travail vis-à-vis la santé et le bien-être de leurs employés est incroyable » affirme Dr Paul Roumeliotis, Médecin hygiéniste. « Comme nos gagnants le savent déjà, un programme de la promotion de la santé en milieu de travail offre plusieurs bienfaits. Par exemple, un tel programme est reconnu pour augmenter le moral des employés et permet d’attirer et de retenir un personnel compétent ».

Le Bureau de santé désire féliciter les récipiendaires du niveau or de la Distinction de mérite :

  • Tulmar Safety Systems Inc.

Le Bureau de santé aimerait également féliciter les gagnants des niveaux argent et bronze. Les gagnants du niveau argent sont : la Cité de Clarence-Rockland, Kraft Canada Inc., et Sabic Innovative Plastics.  Les gagnants du niveau bronze sont : Amsterdam Products, Carefor – Glengarry Outreach Seniors’ Services et Banque Scotia – Rockland.

    I found it strange to see Kraft on the list of Silver level winners. They may have great policies written but in my experience they don’t follow them. Human Resources puts on a big smiley face but the truth is that when someone starts to show any sign of stress they just find a way to get rid of them.

    I think the concept of these awards is great, but I wonder what the actual criteria are. Are the employees of these organizations actually healthier and happier? I agree that an effective health and wellness program improves morale, efficiency, retention and decreases lost work time. Is this happening in these companies? I agree Reg, policies are nice, but results tell the true story.
