The Vagina Monologues Returns to Cornwall Ontario- Call to volunteers and cast! – November 22, 2010

Cornwall ON – V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls inspired by Eve Ensler’s award winning play, The Vagina Monologues. V-Day was incorporated as a non-profit charity in 1998 with the intent of using performances of the play to raise money to benefit female victims of violence and sexual abuse.  Cornwall’s first ever staging of it last March was an overwhelming success, filling the Ramada Inn’s Simon Fraser Ballroom to capacity with over two hundred people in attendance.  Plans are currently in the works to repeat that success with the second annual performance of The Vagina Monologues on Saturday, March 5th, 2011.Funds raised from this production will go to Sexual Assault Support Services of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry and Akwesasne. If you’re a theatre lover with a social conscience and want a role in helping to end violence against women, the producer of the show, Lisa Montroy, invites you to come forth and be part of this internationally renowned and groundbreaking play. Actresses of various ages and types are required as well as all manner of stage crew and pre-production staff. While the show is obviously aimed at women and their empowerment, men are also welcome to come forward. Men’s mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, friends, coworkers and other family are all touched by the scourge of violence against women. It is a human and societal problem which both genders must act upon to end.

Each year V-Day increases awareness by focusing on a specific group of women in the world who are resisting violence with courage and vision. V-Day’s Spotlight Campaign for 2011 will be on the women and girls of Haïti. It will bring attention to the high level of violence against women and girls there, and will focus on the increased rates of sexual violence since the devastating earthquake the country suffered in January of 2010.

If you would like to audition for the show or if you’re interested in working backstage, please send an email to vdaycornwalltvm@hotmail.com with your name, your phone number and how you would like to participate.
