Spending a Snowy Afternoon Watching 80’s Music videos on You Tube! – January 15, 2011 – Cornwall Ontario

Cornwall ON – So it’s a snowy afternoon here in Cornwall Ontario and I’m thinking….I should write something…..anything….surely there’s something important going on in this world of ours?

I start to thinking politics….healthcare….the economy….and then my mind, as it’s wont to do as I get older starts to drift…..a really bad movie was on TV last night, about a Hot Tub taking John Cusack back to the 80’s.   Other than the irony of John Cusack who was a poster boy in the 80’s this really crappy movie shot outside of Montreal had Jessica Pare of Cornwall gettin nekkid in a hot tub ….to that 80’s sound track….and then Money for Nothing was played which brought me to this story here on the Cornwall Free News about censorship.   LINK …which brought me back to You Tube where I started to watch 80’s videos and realized and remembered who truly awful the 80’s were.

Growing up in the 70’s I can now understand some of the old farts reactions to that TV show Happy Days which glorified the 50’s…of course the movie Grease with John Travolta and Olivia Newton John also glorified the 50’s  ( I always liked Stockard Channing in Grease.  She was such a naughty hottie…bit I digress…)

So I decided to link to some 80’s classics or messes depending on your taste from the 80’s.  You can post your thoughts and comments below.

We did things big in the 80’s too.  It was the decade of the Arena Concert and in England they did it biggest with Wembley being used for some of the most historic concerts in history.

Princess Diana got stodgy old Prince Charles to Rock his roll with a series of All Star Concerts for the Prince’s Trust.   Some amazing collections performed for the Royals and of course we peons got to enjoy the music too!

Tina Turner and Paul McCartney perform Get Back with All Star Back ups!

There’s just so much music, good and bad I can spend days filling this page, but I think I’ll stop as I’m having way too much fun You Tubing through the 80s!

So amazing viewers of The Cornwall Free News.  What are your faves from the 80’s?  Who did you listen to as a kid, or as an adult or what did your parents force you to listen to growing up?  Or you really weird 90 year olds that dig 80’s music?  You can post your comments below!

  1. I have to admit that I didn’t recognize half of the bands that were played from the 80s. I didn’t like all the techno-pop leftover disco crap so I hung out at the folk pubs of Toronto. Most of the popular music of the 80s just made my hangovers worse.
