Cornwall ON – I’ve never been a big Carey Price fan. Tuesday night though many Montrealer’s were as the Hab Goalie did what big money goalies are supposed to do; be the difference as Montreal had probably their most satisfying win of the season defeating the league leading Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in their own barn which Montreal is notorious for not being successful in.
It wasn’t just winning; it was how they did it; with 3 five on five goals. It was Andrei Kostitsyn putting one behind Roberto Luongo and the team getting it done. It was David Desharnais and Ben Pouliot getting points with almost no ice time, and of course it was Carey Price being good enough to get the Win as Montreal was out shot 39-25.
Now there are two play off stories starting to brew, the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils keep winning which is always a formula for success. For New Jersey to make the play offs this year would be the Cinderella story of the NHL. While statistically not a probability, with Lou Lamourello and Jacques Lemaire and the team they have nothing is impossible. It should be interesting to see what the Devils do as the trade deadline approaches…. And of course they won last night beating Dallas 1-0.
The Leafs too keep winning with Phil Kessel scoring the winner for a 2-1 victory over the Islanders. James Reimer keeps Leafs fans thinking of the glory days of Mike Palmateer….or Johnny Bower…..
In other NHL scores; Phoenix nipped the Flyers 3-2; the Rangers edged Carolina 4-3; Columbus shut out Nashville 4-0; San Jose 4 Detroit 3; Colorado 4-3 over St.Louis and all of the players in the two teams big trade played roles or scored (wouldn’t Milan Hedjuk look good on Tomas Plekanec’s wing?
Minnesota bit the Oilers 4-1; and Boston defeated Calgary 3-1.
Tick Tock, Tick Tock, who’s next on the trading block! You can post your comments below.
Jamie, it is time for you to become a Carey Price fan. He is now one of the best goalies in the league and he is getting better. I am not a Leafs fan but they might even make the playoffs. We might end up with Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto in the playoffs and a possibility (a small one) of an all Canadian final for the Stanley Cup.
