CFN – The St. Lawrence College Cornwall Sharks men’s hockey team won two of its three games at the Georgian Invitational Tournament in Orillia on Friday, Nov. 18, only bowing out after a semifinal loss to a team from Trent University.

It was an impressive performance by the team since it went to the tournament with just 11 skaters.
“Overall I was very happy with the play of our team,” said Sharks coach Sean Boulerice. “We were missing eight regulars. We had four new players in the lineup and went with 11 skaters.

“They played over and above our expectations. I could not have asked for anymore.”

The team played well in its first game, as five different players scored and Ian MacDonald posted a shutout in goal, as the Sharks beat Lakehead University 5-0.

The wins put the Sharks up against a club team from Trent University in the semifinal. The score was 3-2 for Trent heading into the third period, but Trent pulled away with three third-period goals to win 6-2.

Jamie Lavigne and Racine provided the Sharks goals, with Jared MacDonald drawing assists on both.

Jared MacDonald, an Arts and Science student from Cornwall, ended up as the Sharks leading scorer with three goals and two assists in the tournament. Racine, also an Arts and Science student from Cornwall, was another large contributor, scoring two goals and adding two assists.
