Project 368-268 – Or how I gained 40 pounds in six months! Time to lose weight and get healthier by Jamie Gilcig – November 21, 2011

CFN – Have you ever woke up six months later and realized you’ve gained forty pounds!   Reasons Excuses are easy; marital break up, check, too many 18 hour days, check; Vino therapy (see break up) check, less time more eating out; more bad choices; less veggies…. check.   Less exercise; yup.  Not enough sleep, oy!

All are excuses, but at 47, and I know a bunch of you out there are around that age; excuses equal people coming up to you asking…. “have you gained weight?”

So I went to a local gym and weighed in today.   Ugh.   That’s a wake up call.   Tonight begins my new regimen; no waiting until morning.

For the next three months I’m just going to get into a walking regimen and change my diet.    Stay tuned as I’m going to be sharing my journey with you folks and invite some of you to share yours with everyone out there reading.

Step one will be to cut out late night eating.   Cut down on my red meat, cut down on the red wine and alcohol, cut nearly out some of those favorite snacks, and yes, even cut down on my dark chocolate consumption!

I think the key for me is moderation and reachable goals.

I’m hoping to be typing to you on February 22nd; from Spain, that I’ve lost that 40 that I added and am ready to up the ante to stage two of my regaining life program.

I’ll be sharing some info from some experts; some amazing recipes that are great even if you don’t want to lose weight.  This isn’t a diet.  This is making a choice to live healthier and happier.

Wish me luck, and if you want to participate in this journey email info@cornwallfreenews.com

And apologizing in advance to those nasty politicians that will get an extra dose of nasty if they step out too far over the next month or so 😉

Your humble and soon to be less round editor,

Jamie Gilcig

Hi Furtz. I linked to Wheat Belly a few weeks ago on Facebook. I’ve been weaning myself from wheat for awhile now. I gave up on soft drinks years ago except for occasional tonic water and that’s going to be reduced too as I’m cutting down on alcohol. Glucose/Fructose is a major killer too.

  2. Good Luck to you Jamie.
My exercise equipment is downstairs collecting dust. Six months ago I borrowed my neighbours
equipment and there it sits. LOSING WEIGHT IS SO HARD TO DO…especially when your over 40 or if your a women.

  3. What I don’t get is why everything that tastes good or makes us feel good is bad for us. I’m pretty lucky in that I consume everything that’s “bad” (beef, pasta, beer, etc) and I’m skinny as a toothpick! I’m sure it’ll come back and whack me some day when I least expect it.

Hi Tammy. For me it’s not so much losing weight as much as living better. If I do that I’ll lose weight.

  5. I own 29 weight loss books, not counting my cookbooks, including “Eating for your blood type” “Fight Fat over Forty”, “The Carbohydrate addicts Lifespan Program” “GI Index”,”Zone Foods” and my most recent book purchase “Wheat Belly” just to name a few of the miracle weight loss advice books I have collected. In my opinion they are pretty much all saying the same thing, and all summed up in the Wheat Belly book.. So far in my reading, I am really impressed with the science which seems to pull it all together.

  6. Kathy, maybe you could get some of that book money back by renting them out for a “step” exercise classs…..LOL

Admin, now that you are 39 plus experience, the metabalism rate is slowing. I imagine the only fix, and I struggle a bit too, is less calories coming in and more being used. Water 20 minutes before eating, taking the stairs, parking further away and many others need to be tried to see what works for you. Of course, exercise that does not seem like exercise could work. Skating, biking etc. Best of luck.

My new place has an awfully big driveway. I’ll be doing a lot of shovleling this winter and will be starting to do the civic complex walking circuit. After 40 means muscle mass is more important. It’s not impossible. You don’t need to end up with a six pack to be healthier 🙂

    lol, I probably should…

  9. Go easy with the shoveling, admin – big cardiovascular risk, if you overdo it…which is easy to do. Walking circuit and Eric’s advice good. Bonne chance!

  10. For sure go easy with the snow shoveling! It can be a killer even for those in reasonably good shape.
My philosophy regarding exercise has always been, “No pain…. No pain.”
