IMPAIRED OPERATION & OVER 80

 

            Cornwall, ON – Ryan McDonald, 33 of Cornwall was arrested in the early hours of April 20th, 2012. It is alleged that he was operating a motor vehicle on Brookdale Avenue while under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with Impaired Operation and transported for further testing which resulted in a charge of Over .80. He was released to appear in court on the 8th of May, 2012.

 

THEFT

 

            Cornwall, ON- Justin Dumont, 30 of Cornwall was arrested on April 20th, 2012. He was bound by a probation order with the condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is alleged that on the 14th and the 16th of March, 2012 he attended a Second Street East store and removed property without making any attempt to pay for the items. Police were contacted and an investigation followed. He was charged with 2 counts of Theft under $5000.00 and 2 counts of Breach of Probation Order. He was held in custody until court later that day.

 

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

 

            Cornwall, ON- A 20-year-old Cornwall male was arrested on April 21st, 2012. He was bound by a Probation Order with the relevant conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour, to abstain from the purchase/possession/consumption of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, and to abstain from the purchase/possession/consumption of drugs except in accordance with a medical prescription. It is alleged that between December 2011 and April 2012.April 21st, 2012 the male got into several incidents with his 19-year-old girlfriend when he assaulted her, chocked her, sexual assaulted her, threaten her with a knife as well as a pellet gun and caused property to be damaged. The victim did not require medical treatment. On April 21st, 2012 he got into an altercation with his 19-year-old girlfriend when he assaulted her. During the assault a 57-year-old acquaintance intervened and was also assaulted. The victims did not require medical treatment. Police were contacted and an investigation followed. He was charged with 3 counts of Breach of Probation, 4 counts of Assault, 5 counts of Assault with a weapon, Criminal Harassment, 2 counts of Sexual Assault, Overcoming resistance, 2 counts of Threats to Cause Death, Mischief under $5000.00, Threats to Damage Property and Intimidation. He was held in custody until court the following day. His name was not released as it would identify the victim.  

 

BREACHES

 

            Cornwall, ON- Darcy Dingman, 43 of Cornwall was arrested on April 21st, 2012. He was bound by a Probation Order with relevant conditions of no contact with a certain person, not to be within 50 meters of a certain address, and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. On April 21st, 2012 he was found by a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service to be within 50 meters of the said address and near the said person. He was charged with 3 counts of Breach of Probation Order. He was held in custody until the following day.

 

DOMESTIC MISCHIEF, BREACHES & OBSTRUCT

            Cornwall, ON- A 27-year-old Cornwall male was arrested on April 22nd, 2012. He was bound by an Undertaking with relevant conditions to abstain from the consumption of alcohol, and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. He is also bound by a Recognizance with relevant conditions to abstain from alcohol and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. It is alleged that he got into an altercation with his 30-year-old girlfriend when he caused damage to property. Police were contacted and an investigation followed. He provided a false name to police and was charged with Obstruct Police, Mischief under $5000.00 and Breach of Undertaking and Recognizance. He was held in custody until court the following day. His name was not released as it may identify the victim.

    I had to shake my head when I read an article on TheCornwallDaily.com about a woman being “chocked” instead of “choked”. I then turn to The Cornwall Free News only to find the exact same error!!

    P Page,because of liability issues we media tend to only print what’s provided by police. 🙂

The police provided you with the information that the woman was “chocked” (A block or wedge placed under something else, such as a wheel, to keep it from moving), rather than “choked” (Have severe difficulty in breathing because of a constricted or obstructed throat or a lack of air) so the media would be liable if they corrected the spelling?

    P Page, I will go out on a risk here and suggest that because we publish the blotters regularily and work really really hard that they are not always read first. 🙂
