ALAN JODOIN NAMED SOUTH STORMONT VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR – April 25, 2012

CFN – Alan Jodoin was recognized as the recipient of the prestigious 2011 Fran Laflamme Volunteer of the Year Award during the South Stormont Volunteer Appreciation Gala held on Friday, April 20.

.

The TITANIC themed event held at the South Stormont Community Hall gave Council the opportunity to acknowledge the volunteer achievements of the 140 in attendance and the 24 community associations and organizations that they represent.

Jodoin was primarily recognized for his volunteer role with the S.D.&G. O.P.P. Auxiliary Unit, one in which he has served with countless hours over the course of three decades.  The Auxiliary Unit provides members of the community that are fully trained to assist with, amongst other duties, the delivery of traffic safety and community-based crime prevention initiatives.  Jodoin currently holds the volunteer rank of Staff Sergeant, responsible for leading, training and overall administration of the 27 member Auxiliary Unit.

.

Under Jodoin’s guidance the Auxiliary Unit contributed over 6,000 volunteer hours and drove over 36,000 km in 2011.  He is also credited with leading the members in successful fundraising efforts for local food banks, and most recently the Special Olympics and Adopt an Athlete programs where his team members were honoured for raising the most funds in the Province of Ontario.  During his commitments to the Auxiliary Unit, Jodoin also found time to be a significant volunteer contributor to Cornwall Minor Baseball, the Cornwall Township Lion’s Club, and can also be found fixing computer problems for Big Brothers / Big Sisters.

“It is this type of volunteer commitment that continues to elevate the services available to the members of this community” said Mayor Bryan McGillis following the event. “Mr. Jodoin has and continues to dedicate such a significant amount of time towards improving South Stormont and the surrounding area; it was only fitting that Council was able to recognize him with this award”.
