Montreal Transit Worker Alleged Physical Act & Racial Intolerence Over Use of English – October 30, 2012

CFN–  Another instance of Language Intolerance in Quebec.  Not surprising at this point although most people know that these are rare instances and not something supported by the majority of Quebecers.

LINK

The issue is until officials start firing these people or large lawsuits are won things won’t change.    In this world you have to send a strong message.  If you are working with the public there has to be zero tolerance when it comes to language, racism, sexual intolerance.  It just isn’t civilized.

Can Quebec continue to allow these incidents to occur without ramifications to the employees that commit offenses as with the allegations today or with the Paramedic that refused to speak with the parents of a child they were tending in English?

And where is the Federal government in this mess?  Why are not they making statements and putting some heat on the Quebec Government and Montreal agencies like the STM.

Does someone have to get hurt or die before something finally happens?

How can we talk about anti-bullying to children when adults behave in these manners?

The woman, Mina Barak, 23, alleges the argument escalated to a physical struggle after the employee refused to assist her in English.

Barak wants the worker, whom she says assaulted her and ordered her to ‘go back to your country,’ charged.

In this instance the STM worker not only allegedly physically assaulted Ms Barak, but uttered a racially intolerant term to her.  When is enough a enough?   Hopefully CCTV cameras will show what exactly happened, but if these allegations are true this worker has to be fired.

It’s not about French & English.  It’s about what we truly will accept in our society.   It’s time to show people that this type of behavior is not acceptable.

Quebec is the most intolerant of all provinces and increasingly so with the separatist in government ,I only expect to see more behaviors as this .

This is what happens when one society is distinct above all others ,it creates a sense of entitlement that has culminated over the last 43 years .

This is regrettable and I fear only the beginning of more violence to come .

When societies turn in on themselves and create ethnocentrism ,minorities pay a price .History is full of these scenarios .

WE, are the government and are letting others get away with things. I don’t know if we have exchanged being looked after for votes, have given up or just don’t know what to do to help.

The federal government will be voting on the NDP Bill C419 (http://openparliament.ca/bills/41-1/C-419/) soon and need some advice folks, do your bit and email the MP’s.
Be the white Knight on horseback and rise above special interest group domination.

So this bill is MANDATE all Officers of government to be hired bilingual the next stage will be all government mp’s will be bilingual .

Now as stats can indicated that 17% refer themselves are bilingual .
This number is significantly less as are they classified A- bilingual?
Understanding that some speak some of both languages but not at that proficiency !

Therefore this number is significantly less.
So to hire only from that small percentage is a complete injustice to society and does not choose from across the broad regions of Canada but from a small select region or group.

Should all of the supreme court come from Quebec because they happen to be bilingual ?

Is this to say that judges from Newfoundland through to British Columbia are unskilled or incapable to do the job?

You see people this is called social engineering !!!…..best person for the job does not mean that language is better then your skills at law ,but now language is becoming superior to education through legislation.

Careful were this leads -1930’s Germany was very similar.

So is this the new master race ….speak french or…..
Just look at Quebec- one country one language.

Interesting read. I took particular note at the following comment on that link:

    “Yvon Godin Acadie—Bathurst, NB

Mr. Speaker, we had to introduce Bill C-419 to ensure that our officers of Parliament are bilingual because the Conservatives appointed a unilingual anglophone Auditor General.

It should be fairly simple. In Canada, we have two official languages: French and English.

Although he is a Conservative, the hon. member for Beauce understands why this was important. However, some members of the Conservative caucus still do not get it.

Will the government vote in favour of Bill C-419, yes or no?”

Seems that some want this private members bill passed because they have a problem with the Auditor General. Probably more because of the negative report that he turned in regarding the sustainability of the spending. Will there be no end, now language is being used as a weapon potentially against the Auditor General? I personally hope this bill doesn’t pass.. else we can add more to the list of spending sustainability.

Yep…you guys are at the point that everything that happens in this world has to do with language…..OMG give it a break!!!

People get shot, beaten up, homes broken into, get in a car accident, get tonsilitis or a bunion and it’s all because of language……the french are trying to control this country..**s**

On another note, McGuinty is getting a severance package of more than $313.000. Are you going to form another group and protest in front of the prov. office? We must stand up for our rights and be counted. In a democratic society and being the majority, the gov should not have the right to make those decision before contacting the FLA.

OMG piper…..I often wonder if you ever re-read your post….the exageration would be laughable if it wasn’t so pathetic…..especially the comment about the judges….get real!!!

Stella’s at it again -more propaganda:

“People get shot, beaten up, homes broken into, get in a car accident, get tonsilitis or a bunion and it’s all because of language……the french are trying to control this country..**s**”

-So are the Judges from other area’s of the country -ya you know the 83+% are not capable of doing the job because they don’t speak french ?

-Language is now superior to education otherwise all resume’s should be seen and not limited to language .

You see people if resume’s are not looked at if the person is not bilingual,no matter the education or experience ,this tells me language is superior !

  7. Eric   October 31, 2012 at 3:28 PM

stella, 313,000 is a small price to pay for McGuinty’s exit….but the cheque will be bilingual, no worries there.

Stella this is clearly a language issue in this article, what the hell is wrong with you. And with this organization it wasn’t the first time.

I’ll defend my position here too about this. This is no longer a debate about language, but about principles.

A employee of the Montreal Transit system PHYSICALLY ASSAULTED SOMEONE. THIS EMPLOYEE SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY FIRED! CASE CLOSED!

The fact that reasons were language is quite secondary!

  9. stellabystarlight   October 31, 2012 at 6:14 PM

There is not only language that comes into play when applying for a job…….again, exageration. Language is an asset when applying for jobs….especially if both languages are required. DO NOT APPLY if you don’t have both…..it’s as simple as that.

83% of judges out of work in this country…..again exageration!!

  10. stellabystarlight   October 31, 2012 at 6:45 PM

Cory……..read the caption of the article before you say anything, “Racial Intolerance Over Use of Language” Is that not about language…….Oh? OK!! **smile**

  11. Rosie   October 31, 2012 at 9:09 PM

Stella I am going to call you on that. Didn’t you say your friend who lost her job was replaced by a someone who didn’t speak French, yet this was a bilingual position. So I say APPLY, APPLY, APPLY.

No stella language is not considered an asset for those government jobs its required (A BIG) difference .
Therefore no matter your education and experience if you are not bilingual you can’t even apply for the Job !!!!!!!!
This CLEARLY means LANGUAGE IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE.

So Stella do you think ALL supreme court judges should be bilingual?
So all Officers of the government be bilingual?
So is choosing from <17% of applicants purely on language.. RIGHT?

Once again language is given more importance then education and experience …..that could explain your job right Stella …were you the best applicant for that government job or were you simply ……french speaking?

Rosie…..The employee never applied. It was offered to her when my friend went on entitled vacation for two weeks. She was told when she came back that she was being let go……..and that my dear Rosie is the truth
