Canada: No Longer a Democratic Country that Respects Basic Human Rights? by Don Smith

Supreme Court of Canada will NOT hear Galganov / Brisson Forced Bilingual Sign Appeal – Breaking

The Supreme Court of Canada (the court of last resort)

CFN – Human rights champion Howard Galganov reports that today he received the much-anticipated e-mail concerning his petition made to the Supreme Court.  The court of last resort was being asked to overturn a decision made by a Superior Court judge that allows muncipalities to over-ride the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Previously an Ontario Superior Court judge ruled that Russell Township violated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, but that doing so was acceptable.  By a very slim majoriy, the township passed a bylaw which demands that all new exterior commercial signage be in English and French, not one or the other and no provision for other languages.  Russell was the fourth Eastern Ontario township to do so.

Today the Township of Russell posted the following Press Statement on their website:

“In light of the decision of the Supreme Court of Canada in regards to the leave of appeal from Galganov / Brisson versus Russell in the matter related to the Bilingual Sign Bylaw, we are extremely pleased that the plaintiffs were denied the hearing” said Mr. Jean Paul St-Pierre, Mayor for the Township of Russell. “It finally brings closure to the legal proceedings that were, in all instances, decided in favor of the Municipality by the court. The Court reiterates the fact that the Township was in its legal rights to adopt such bylaw and that Mr. Howard Galganov, a non-resident of the municipality, was in no position to contest the bylaw. We now can move forward for the benefit of our communities” concluded Mayor St.Pierre.”

How ironic that some Franco businesses and municipal agencies choose not to adhere to the bylaw.  The municipal Fire Hall in Embrun boasts a unilingual sign which reads:  “Poste de Pompiers”.

Russell Township imposes bilingual sign requirements on private businesses, yet displays French only signs on Township buildings like this one.

And, as we reported recently, the Francophone cultural/entertainment centre recently replaced its sign with a high tech version, but still in French only.  An employee of La Maison des Arts told us that they were zoned differently (institutional/non-profit), then said that it’s because they provide French education.  Apparently the centre previously had posted a small sign which explained that rationale. A member of the local community informed us that La Maison des Arts provides day care service for the French Catholic School across the street; would one not think that to be considered a business venture?

Pierre Leroux ran for and became a Russell Councillor two years ago; he told CFN that it’s widely known that one of his motivating forces in running for Council was the fact that he didn’t feel it right the way that bilingualism was forced upon local businesses.  As for today’s Supreme Court announcement, as a member of Council he’s happy that the Township will not have to pay for an expensive legal battle (which he feels could have been avoided), but as a person he feels that the decision is wrong.

Here are the old and new versions of the hard-to-miss, La Maison des Arts outdoor sign. Staff claim to be exempt from the Russell Township bylaw because they provide French education.

So, what about everyone else?  People are asking ‘What’s the problem with being fair and allowing everyone a similar degree of freedom of expression?’  That’s a great question!

In our short clip, viewers can plainly see that the animated sign is unilingual and hear for themselves the explanation we received from a staff member of the arts centre.

Galganov was among the presenters at the recent annual Christmas Luncheon hosted by Canadians for Language Fairness at an Ottawa area restaurant.  At the gathering, Galganov told the crowd:

“If the Supreme Court decides that they’re not going to hear the case, then it becomes the law of Canada.  Any municipality can legislate, not just on issues of language and culture, but on any of the guarantees in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.  The Charter is essentially a Charter of Suggestions.  Any time a judge or group of judges of one mindset or the other can decide what is to be protected and what is not to be protected it means we have no guarantees.  Freedom of Expression is the foremost guarantee we have in any free society.”

In our highlight video clip (unedited footage provided by Danno Saunt) each of the key presenters at the CLF Luncheon (Beth Trudeau, Howard Galganov, Nick Vandergragt, Brian Lilley, Ron Barr and Jack MacLaren) shares an update on their involvement in the ongoing struggle to preserve basic human rights here in Canada.

It is anticipated that Galganov as well as Language Fairness for All and Canadians for Language Fairness will step up their efforts locally and nationally.

Any sarcasisms directed against admin or others here are tolerated . When Some one responds in kind they are hand slapped.

    I believe fair is fair.

If people are attecked personally, and their posts are allowed, I think that it is only fair we be allowed to respond, in kind.

Leo was sarcasticlly mocked, as was highlander, being referred to as a bigot and spewing hogwash

    Just an observation

  2. tap tap, it is all water off a ducks back. Pierre implied my thinking or point was stupid earlier, big deal. He certainly did not prove it to be, so why bother addressing that. So many people come here for information to read, use the chance to offer another view to them.

Some wait for justification to say, there, see, he or she is just a redneck non progressive gun toting knuckle draggier………don’t give it to them and be the bigger person.

Problem solved. Right on Pierre. So, I guess you will be with standing with us on the hill this coming summer when we tell the government we want to do away with official bilingualism OUTSIDE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. This is EXACTLY what we are saying and what we believe should be done. The ideal and expense of “trying” to make ALL OF CANADA bilingual is unjustifiable.

  4. @ Admin

You say that I insult you.
Just look at the abuse, you accept, that’s swong, at me and others, in my group.
I agree that you stop a lot of cr@p but you let some go by. And, what you accept, I take as coming from you.
I think, that you are using this insult bit as an excuse to avoid adressing and answering my comments in a significient manner.

Look, When you and others talk of linguistic accomodation to the francophone, what you are eally saying is that the francophone are not equal to the anglophone, in this country. That they do not have the same rights that the anglos have.
On Dec. 29, you told me in a post that the pendulum had swung to far. That you felt, this way because, a unilingual anglophone could not make Major in the armed forces or become a Supreme Court judge or work in the federal public service.
I had answered you, by telling you that neither could a unilingual francophone.
The next day or two after, I think it was bella-b, who brought it back up and said, that she agreed with you.
You could have said that, you had revised that opinion because, you had come to understand, that unilingual francophones can’t get those jobs either, and that the only fair action for the government to undertake had been the imposition of bilingualism for those positions.
You’re allowed your opinion as to your eyes being open but you can only convince me by answering these two question:
“How can it be fair to demand bilingualism of the french canadians and only unilingualism for english canadians in these federal positions?”
“And how is that different than saying, to the blacks, in the States, that they have to ride in the back of the bus?”

I know, these are going to be hard questions, for you to answer or even to post, but I hope you will.

  5. Pierre again please do not tell me what I say. I’m quite good at saying what I’m saying. I am clearly stating that I do not think that Canadians should be forced to be bilingual unless that’s what they choose collectively which they have not.

With Quebec choosing to be unilingually French there is no incentive for the rest of Canada to accommodate Francophones to the degree that it’s rapidly becoming. Forcing government workers to speak to each other in French?

Canada is not a half and half situation. It doesn’t mean that if you’re French you have no rights. That’s retarded my friend. That’s not logical.

Reality is reality. It’s time that Canadians have a good frank talk about reality. Quebec has ruined the good will that most Canadians had towards bilingualism.

    It’s over.

  6. @ Admin
Thanks for posting my questions. I’m waiting for a significant answer now.

    @ edudyorlik
If you can organize a protest, on the Hill, to tell the government to do away with bilingualism, outside the government, and IT’S INSTITUTIONS.
You betcha I’ll be right there with you.

  7. And to you know who, whiny posts get deleted too. Life is not fair. Get over it.

  8. I am stunned, that any reasonable, person would entertain anything pierre stella or ed says.

I believe that they are a waste of time. period.

Canadians, as simply as I can put this out there, DO NOT WANT BILINGUALIM , Its their choice,

Regardless of what governments legislate, they cannot legislate people’s will.

To go over and over these arguements , like a hamster in a cage is useless. Nobody’s mind will change.

I think all English Canadaians have the duty to defend and encourage that the English language be dominent within our canadian boders.

we eventually will have a nine province Canada, sooner or later, it will come,

To that end, we must strenghthen our resolve to work towards this goal. Not waste our time on people that are hopeless.

  9. “Look, When you and others talk of linguistic accomodation to the francophone, what you are eally saying is that the francophone are not equal to the anglophone, in this country. ”

Waaah! Someone give our friend Pierre a nipple. Pierre when I drive through Quebec on my way to PEI I don’t even try to speak English in small stores. I don’t “EXPECT” to be accommodated. If I were a unilingual Anglophone I wouldn’t move to St. Louis de Ha Ha expecting to be spoken to by everyone in perfect English nor get Perfect English of high standard care in the local hospital.

Why would a Unilingual Francophone expect that in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan or Smiths Falls Ontario?

It burns the good nature and good will of people when theoretical bs creeps into people lives and jobs. Canada is not a bilingual country. We try and be nice to each other. As Canadians we expect nice. I expect someone in Quebec to help me if my French isn’t good enough. When I deal on those rare occasions with a unilingual Francophone like I did at the counties meeting where they were bused in I didn’t scowl and say go to Quebec. I used the best French I had to try and answer the person speaking to me.

We’re nice people in Canada Pierre. Please stop trying to “Force” your political mandate on us. If you want a change have a dialog and then a vote. If Canadians really want everyone in Canada to speak both languages perfectly that’s awesome. The people will have spoken.

  10. Admin
I too can boast the extents of this country from Ucluelet
Vancouver island thru to Lab CIty NFLD.

Every where I have visited in between here and Ucluelet
think Canada ends at the Ontario Manitoba border and Cornwall is a haven for bums and smugglers.

They pay no mind to Quebec or language issues either.

The east coast is pretty much the same save for the border ending Canada. They just don’t really give a hoot so long and they are left alone

  11. Like I said, why do (admin) and others entertain anything these people say?

You now know, why people just simply ignore their rants.

Can it not be more obvious, that the disconnect between french and English, connot be fused into one nation.

We think differently, see politics differently, want a different vision for our respectiuve nations, and on and on it goes.

The time is ripe for the people of canda to push for quebec separation. I certainly feel there is nothing Canadian about quebec,

No matter how much the federal government pushes a bilingual agenda, or this unification process, an illusion really, it simply won’t work.

Quebec, by it actions and laws of the last 50 years has brought this out in our nation,

Why are we so resistent to a quebec nation and a nine province Canada?

They can go their way and we can go ours.

Beliieve me, this is the best course of action for Canada, as for quebec, I couldn’t care less, they have simply turnedd me off for the last 50 years.

  12. Pierre said “Look, When you and others talk of linguistic accommodation to the francophone, what you are really saying is that the francophone are not equal to the anglophone, in this country. That they do not have the same rights that the anglos have.”

The people are equal Pierre, language is not. We all have the same rights and obligations as citizens. (Except buiness owners in 4 townships) No matter Jewish or Chinese, parents pass down their language and traditions without expecting payment from a government to do that. Ontario spends over 1.4 billion a year on French schools, between federal & provincial, hundreds more millions are going to Francophone associations and for accommodation, you don’t think bilingual signs and jobs count?

  13. Go admin go

  14. @ Admin
You insult me more than I do you by saying that, what I think and say is retarded and illogical.
And your answer is unsatisfactory and Ill tell you why.
Canadians do, in fact, chose to be a bilingual country everytime they elect a governent that supports official bilingualism.
Anyone who disapproves, of all our federal parties or governments stance, on official bilingualism, is free to create a party that will satisfie their desires. That’s democracy.
And, I’m not telling you what to say, I’m asking you to answer my two (2) questions significantly.
I’ve aready explined, what many anglo quebecers and many federal politicians have comme to understand. That is that Québec had to decalre itself officially francophone, or it risked to be assimilated, in the same way that, the francos, in the ROC, are being assimilated.
As to government workers being forced to speak french, to each other… Welll I don’t know about that? And, being from the Gatineau, I know a lot of government workers… Seems, to me, like a mere recommendation that’s being blown up… Can you provide proof or details of that?
As to Canada not being a half and half country. Well, you’re right on that point, but as it was esplained by Alexis de Toqueville in the 1840’s
” The rights of a minority are not to be subject to the whims of the majority”. Thas bit of wisdom was later repeated, by the first Prime Minister of Canada J.A. MacDonald, when his government decreted that Canada was a bilingual country.
Oh, Did you know that MacDonald was bilingual? But I digress.

I am now, having a frank talk, with you, about the reality of Canada.
But, a frank discussion is when, both sides, have an open mind and are willing to change their points of view, when proven wrong or when their arguments have no substance.

3rd. question: Are you having a frank discussion, with me or, are you just dictating to me, what you would like reality to be?

  15. Pierre I always have an open mind. Do you? I’m talking reality. I’m not in a court of law. I’m not in philosophy class. I’m not racist. I’m not suggesting it be illegal to speak French or no French services.

I’m suggesting that this you can’t be higher than a Major in our armed forces be over. That French be an asset in Canada even though English apparently isn’t in Quebec.

I’m suggesting that we have the same laws and principles across Canada and that if Quebec wants to be in Canada she has to shift.

I’m suggesting that Canadians not be barred from employment or advancement because they don’t speak the highest levels of French unless their position requires that.

Do you really have a problem with any of that? If you do then you sir are part of the problem.

  16. I think its time for canadians, to take stock of our true identity.

Everywhere, with obvious exceptions, in quebec, a small village in N.B. and a miniscule portion of Ontario, English is the predominent language in Canada.

97% of Canadians don’t want bilingualism of any kind.

Go far and wide, B.C. Alta, Sask. Man. Ont PEI, N.S. NFLD N.B. and the far reaches of the north CANADIANS DON”T WANT BILINGUALISM .

Why is that so hard for some people to understand?

    ITS THE PEOPLE”S WILL

To preach to the impossible is a waste of time. Let them go, to whereever they go to.

Time to focus on a nine province Canada and a party ot deliver us to Canada that emcompasses one official language ENGLISH

Boy does that feel good saying that

  17. @ Admin dec13 4:13 pm
    You’re losing your cool Admin.
I’m not talking about your poersonnal experiences.
We are 23 millions in this country so, there are plenty of positive and negaitve experiences to go around.
I’ll say it again. When you and others talk about accomodating francophones, you are only trying to trow a smoke screen over our eyes. What you want is the end of official bilingualism and that, if implemented would mean the end of Canada. And, it won’t happen. No federal government will ever, ever, make it happen.
Now, you’re talking about getting linguistic services in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan, and iI thought, I digressed. Somebody does need a nipple, that’s for sure.
Look, It’s in the Constitution of the country that provinces had to provide health and educational services to their official language minorities, in their language.
I agree with you that that’s a very tall order. Impossible to fill in remote areas of Canada as well as in remote areas of Québec. I can’t even be treated in french, by the anglophone nurces in the Shawville hospital. And that’s in Québec. And patients in Sudberry Ontaro used to say, until not long ago, that if francophones wanted to be sick, they had better not be on the weekend because the french speaking doctor(s) and nurses were off.
I hope that situation has improved.

The theoritical bs that creeps into people comes, not from the politicians, but from people like you(s), Admin and you(s) make a difficult situation much harder.

That’s the HUGE problem Hailey. No one give s a hoot till it starts to affect them. The boiling frog concept. WE NEED those people and ALL ANglophone Canadians to give a hoot because if they don’t then one day in the not so distant future (VERY SOON), it will be them who can’t find work because the just don’t know French. Frenchification is coming to a town or ctiy near you. SOONER thanwe all thought.

Why are you even bothering with a pierre, stella or any one else?

If this site is for open minded logical discussion, then you are taking away from the real issues here by engaging in rethoric that is futile, with antagonists .

It also takes away from our healthy views that have become skewered with personal attacks and vile comments.

This is NOT WHINNING, it is the TRUTH

  22. @ leo
You’re right to say that you are merely preaching but, it’s not to the impossible opponents to your dreams (nightmares) that you are preaching.
But, you’re right. To get rid of bilingualism, you’ll have to break up Canada and form another country, a republic, maybe.
A tall order, but I’m sure, you and your gang of 7 or 8, are up to ithe chalenge… Yeah, you sure are!

I was in my job for several years, in Quebec, and position not designated bilingual. A new Francophone #1 boss was suddenly parachuted in, deposed the Anglophone #1, no questions asked or answered. Almost immediately the F#1 declared my position bilingual and finally got me out with a despicable threat.
Many others of my competent staff and asociates were replaced with Francophones, ONLY BECAUSE THEY WERE ANGLOPHONE.

    Item 2.
Quote: And, I did’nt believe you when you said that you had had a return answer from Tim Hudak’s office. Why did I and Rosie not get such an answer?

Doesn’t concern me whether you believe me, or not, Pierre. I can repeat anything I write here without having to commit lies to memory.

  26. @EVERYONE

I recently recommended to all who would do so, to vote Conservative to ward off the possibility of another Liberal government under the Young Trudeau.
I also said if you don’t want to go that route, go for NDP or the Greens or the Hippos or ???????? but not the Liberals.
Let’s get this diabloical bilingualism abolished then we can go back to party politics of our preferred choice.

Here is my reasoning for interested bloggers to comment:

It is a matter of opinion whether Trudeau can take the leadership of the party. It is my contention that he could, even though he isn’t an intellectual likle his father was, but the magic is in the air.
His antics would be excused by the infatuated Liberals who overlooked the gyrations and rude gestures his father made.

If Justin does make it to be the Leader I predict the votes will be split with the NDP in Quebec with the majority going to him.
Quebec will flip flop to get anyone from the province as party leader in the hope that person will become Prime Minister. Just like in the Trudeau, Chretien days, and the Conservative anomoly Mulroney. Quebec will switch political allegiance to get anyone who could make it to P.M.

As I have experienced, and it is our major complaint, Francophones
put Francophones and the French language before Merit.
Note: Jack Leyton was from Quebec, they thought he was the saviour that would lead to having a P.M. from Quebec again, but they misjudged it. Mulcair has done nothing for Quebec except the traditional belly aching – he’s a loser.

I would welcome comments from intelligent contributors please.

  27. Ken none of the current political parties, your beloved Conservatives included will tackle this issue.

  28. @Stella
You DID NOT answer the question so I’ll pose it again, Acknowledge or refute as you please.

This is what you said that lead to my question:
    Quote
Know what, we all have lost jobs at some time or other the difference is, we did not blame any else for our shortcomings.
    end quote.

    I asked, and will repeat:
Tell me Stella, and be honest on this one. Is losing your job because you don’t speak the same language as your new boss a short coming. That’s why I and many other Anglophones in a Crown Corporation lost our jobs.

A straight yes or no will suffice.

  29. @ Amin
And, I’m not supposed to be insulted by you saying that what I think and say is retarded and illogical. that I need a nipple.
What I’m saying is that admit or not, or whether you can understand it, or not, does’nt matter because, the government understands it and, that’s why we have official bilingualism, in Canada.
The reality you are talking about is the people you have talked to on your travels PPffff! Get real, Admin. That’s not a serious way to evaluate the value of a law, any law.
An educated man, like you, should understand that, unless…. But
not understanding something is not racist. “STUBORNLY REFUSING” to understand “THIS LAW”, and it’s necessity and still try to kill it, can and should be seen as racism

Now if you can’t disprove the points, I make in my posts, you should, at least understand that, any serious and open-minded reader, on this blog, will check what I’m saying and then evaluate for himself if, you are racist, or not.

  30. It seems that I do not have to post comments to infuriate anyone here…………

In my absence it seems that Pierre and a few others have decided to continue their war of words against those who believe in honest to goodness fairness……. And to this extent, I am refering to the latest rant (Pierre vs. Admin.)

Ignore Pierre, Stella, Ed and company as I have over these last few weeks. You’ll do yourself wonders and feel better.

I no longer feel these parties are ‘complete’ idiots as I feel there are missing parts in them all, indeed!

    All the best in 2013,

  31. @ those who responded to my comments on bilingualism in BC.

It seems I fell for some over stated Press on the French presence during the winter Olympics. It happens and I thank you for bringing me up to date with encouraging news that bilingualism is not taking hold out there.

However, I believe it is happening quietly and we would have to ask why French is necessary unless it is the workings of an underground movement. Forgive me folks if I appear dramatic, it comes from experiencing some quite dramatic “bilingual” events that changed my life for the worse.

  33. @Leo,

I sincerely hope you are right that Southern Ontario will fight to prevent bilingualism taking hold as it has in this region.
My fear is that the power is in Francophone hands in the Federal Government at the Deputy Minister, and below level, and it is they who are pushing the agenda. I was there in the early seventies and know how the takeover started. It is still happening. Do you recall
recently Gordon Fraser sending spies to the Airports to check on how French is being used – meaning, is it being used enough.
How do you fight the FLSA? The irony is Fraser is supposed to be the Language Commissioner to protect English and French but he clearly is very much on the French side. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

Tap tap, don’t hold your breath and hope for anything from Moore. He was in Chesterville not long ago at a fund raising event for the Francophones with our local M.P. A CLF representative eventually mangaged a meeting with him that proved more of a courteousy and a waste of time.

  35. Unbelievable……. I suggest to all those who are unhappy living in this wonderful country…..MOVE TO THE MIDDLE EAST where THE PEOPLE RULE. They can overthrow the gov, dictate, attack and kill……..NOW THAT IS TRUE DEMOCRACY!!!!

This gang keep saying that the GOV wants to make this entire country bilingual and forcing french in every province……NOT TRUE!!!!

Many english freedom fighters will go to extremes and say anything to try and prove a point …..at times their statements are highly exagerated and fabricated……..many Canadians know better.

  36. @ Ken, edudyorlik, cory, highlander , tap tap, eric Helga, Rosie, bella-b

I appreciated all of your most informative and intelligent posts.

the avenue I would like to pursue is one which entails positive suggestions, regarding getting quebec out of canada.

I also welcome suggestions and discussions on how to get rid of bilingualism , forced or otherwise.

I would like to establish a network that would go viral to all friends and canadians of similar political beliefs.

Perhaps a link to ensure that the posts here carry beyond this geographic area.

I regularly forward edudyorlik videos to people from across the country.

I also email to people from B.C. to NFLD the CLF ‘s messages and memos to people coast to coast as well.

The feedback I get is from schock to absolute rage ,that these bilingual policies exist in a Canada such as ours.

This is one way of making people aware of Canada’s dirty little secret thanks to the liberals of a bygone era.

but times they are a changing, and for the better.

Through the internet, u-tube, videos , mass and instant communication the word is getting out.

Forget the agitators here, their messages are of no consequence to our values or cause.

A rant is just that, a rant, it serves no purpose, other than to blow ill winds .

Remember, the emptiest cannons, make the loudest noises.

    Ignore the ignorant.

  37. C’mon everyone. Let’s just admit it. Pierre is right. Quebec and the French deserve for ALL the rest of English Canada to “accomodate the French” and the “province” in EVERY WAY POSSIBLE. I mean, after all, they accomodate the English quite nicely in Quebec. They are treated like GOLD don’t_cha_know. Example after example. The STO worker that punched the lady because she was speaking English. Dmamit she deserved it. The man in the line at the caferteria who had a sandwich thoran at him because he was speaking ENlgish. He deserved that too. And, and .. and.. the kid who was beaten on the street because he had the nerve to speak ENlgish in his own country. What a little know it all. How dare he.
    –
Also, Piere is right aboutt his too, Pierre wrote, “Look, It’s in the Constitution of the country that provinces had to provide health and educational services to their official language minorities, in their language.”
    –
I am sure we have all seen how health and educational services are being offered to the English over dare. Shesh, they even make the news with it now and again. You may have all seen the one where the father not too long ago calling emergency services as his young daughter was having a seizure in front of him on the floor and the French Quebec ambulance service first responder refused to speak English to him.
Isn’t it wonderful. wooo hooo …

We must endevor to remember how wonderfully well treated the English are hover dare.
    –
    AND IN THAT VEIN
    –
We must constantly strive to BE JUST LIKE THEM. No wait, since this is such exemplary human behavior i suggest we be like them with 10 times the vigor …

And with this, i say to all … I HAVE HAD IT UP TO HEAR with their backwards sense of up is down, left is right garbage. I have no use for them. And the only remedy is what Leo and Ken have said on many occasions. IGNORE them. < period.

We should look ahead to the challenge this country faces. To protect itself from being taken over from within.
People, you NEED TO speak about thiw issue with EVRYONE and ANYOINE who comes into ear shot. Tell them how important it is.

And, like admin say's, and he's right too. No government will touch this. IT MUST BE THE PEOPLE. And we NEED to be sure that ALL THE PEOPLE are focused on what is happening and how we can stop it.
We ALL have a part to play. Though it MAY seem small DO IT. be an example, be a leader, be THE ONE in your area that stands up. Other will see what you do and follow along.
For kanyone who follows American politics. Look at what Chriss Christie did and how he stood up to Bheoner. Don't know about you but i felt a sense of, YEAH, right on. Someone styanding up. I LIKE THAT and will stand behindand with somsoen liek that. (pardon spelling errors as i was typig fast and with a slight edge 🙂 )

  38. Ken……I DID ANSWER YOU>………..

  39. @Helga,

quote: Studies say the opposite, that support for bilingualism outside of Quebec is dwindling. end quote.

I believe there is a subtle difference between support and participation. Based on what is now surfacing as the true purpose of bilingualism, now in it’s more insidious form, mandatory bilingualism made legal by such as the FLSA it is not surprising that Anglophones are backing off. The initial Trudeau promise that bilingualism, put your kids into French Immersion for the future of Canada, has turned out to be completely the opposite. Bilingualism has resulted in providing an overwhelming advantage for Francophones, particularly in government and the workplace. Anglophones bought into the dream and now they know the truth they are becoming unsupportive. That’s how would explain waining support.

  40. Ken……here is the answer that was posted 4 days ago that you keep on saying I never answered **smile**

Anyone with enough insight and intuition who resides in a country where there are two official languages should have taken the initiative to learn both languages. Language WAS NEVER forced on anyone, it was a personal choice. That being said, if you chose the easy way out and refused to learn french, that was your choice……why blame others for bad choices you made in life?……..ca-vas?

  41. @ Pierre. We are seriously outnumbered here Bro. It’s kinda like arguing with twenty preachers at once. These guys know The Truth, and no discussion or argument will change that fact. Their minds (such as they are) are made up, and they are on a freedom-fighting mission come hell or high water or logic.
We should meet up at the big English-Rights demo on Parliament Hill this summer. I’ll be checking out the bikini bag-piping band and the self-immolating Highland dancers. Hope to see you there.

  42. @Admin.

You are undoubtably right , however, I would like to think there is a Diefenbaker lurking somewhere in the future for a political solution
to bilingualism. I fear the alternative, it could be very nasty because you can only push people so far.

I’ll respond like this Ed and P.J.Robertson can explain it to you.

If only god wud the gifty gi us tae see oorsells as others see us.

P.J feel free to correct me on on exact wording.

  44. @ Ken,

The best of a poor lot is the P.C. party.

The N.D.P. are very disappointing and MulCair is a separatist , read his wife’s backgroud, that all you need to know.

I was very disappointed in the western N.D.P. members, I thought they would draw the line at having a separtist as a leader.

    The liberals, forget them entirely.

That leaves, P.C. or the formation of an All English party to force quebec out of canada and end bilingualism

Before everyone says that it is impossible , please consider the following:

There have been parties that came out of nowhere and brought about dramatic change in Canada

    1) the P.Q in quebec

    2) the reform Party

    3) the B.Q.

    4) The green party

    5) Wild rose party

We need a politican or former politican that can begin this process and take a lead here,we don’t necessarily have to win to be successful.

I know throughout Canada there are tens of thousands of English Canadians so very frustrated by what our federal government has allowed to take place regarding Quebec and forced bilingualism , that they are willing to change to a party that reflects what the English Canadians of Canada want.

They also represent many, many votes in many, many ridings

Parties are formed out of the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

Begin at the grass roots level, as has been initiated here on these blogs and you will find we are but a drop in the ocean , compared to the millions of Canadians who are utterly disgusted with the policies of forced bilingualism, payments for franco gruops across canada and the like.

I travel extensively throughtout canada, and believe me, there is no sympathy for quebec or forced bilingualism in Canada.

    Quite the opposite.

Current politicans have to tow the line, but that is to be expected. but don’t tell me, that somewhere within the bowels of Parliament that there is a group that hates the very notion of forced bilingualism and wants Canadian taxpayers to stop funding this.

Reed Skowran maybe a start. A former quebec politican that has advocated for Canada to break away from quebec is both knowledgeable and experienced. He might be a good starting poin, or people still close to him can recommend +

The exercise here is TO START SOMEWHERE to get this off the ground and momentium to build,

The more we discuss, the more ideas emerge and eventually we will find our way. It will take time, rome was not built in a day.

Don’t| anyone give up or be frightened by the naysayers that will mock and throw dirt, they are the desparate ones.

    Let us begin

  45. @ Ken

Ken, a little story about toronto.

I have a manager that works at woodbine rack track in Etobicke,

A man demanded to be served in french while trying to purchase his betting tickets.

The PATRONS literally through him out on to paddock enterance, because of his insistance and rude mannerisms.

I don’t advocate violence of any form, however, this was the patrons response to bilingual services in a community that is under 0.4% french

Southern Ontario is well attuned to the evils of bilingualism, there are tens of thousands that moved here after levesque’s victory in 1976.

The farther west you go ,the more the outrage to policies of bilingualism

  46. @ ken jan 04 7:10 pm.

    There you go!

  47. edudyorlic, when you said what you said (below), you are not speaking for me or for any Anglos fighting to end official bilingualism IN the Canadian government, its 200 Crown Corporations and third parties doing business with government. I can only surmise you had “a moment” when you wrote:

    – “we want to do away with official bilingualism OUTSIDE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT”

    – “on the hill this coming summer when we tell the government we want to do away with official bilingualism OUTSIDE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. This is EXACTLY what we are saying and what we believe should be done.”

Please do what you do best (making videos) and abstain from making any speeches on the Hill.

  48. @ cory cameron
Stating facts out of the Constitution and out of the history books, quoting pre Constitution prime Ministers of Upper and Lower Canada, the First prime Minister of Canada and some of Post 1867 Constitution and some more recent Prime Ministers of Canada makes me more than an idiot. It means I’m missing some parts, eh

But I understand your feeling better not responding to me (us).
It’s hard for you (s) to be asked to think and to respond to us intelligently… We understand completely!

  49. Your comment is awaiting moderation indefinitely.
    I get it.

  50. I think Leo makes a valid point .

since we are all united in this quest for change, organization is key.

I suggest we use CLF as a base for further actions.

I know there are people here who are in regular touch with CLF and perhaps an exchange of email through specific people at CLF will get the ball rolling.

I would also like to propose a fund be set up and administered through a professional manner, to ensure that the $$$ we may need will flow.

These are suggestions , and I hope more ideas will flow as this movement mounts and grows.

I also have a list of contributors lined up to begin this process.

trust accounts can be establised in any bank and public access can be obtained by designated officiers.
