CFN – Leaf’s GM Brian Burke is the first casualty of the 2013 season. The GM will forever be remembered for the disastrous Phil Kessel trade that saw Boston end up with Tyler Seguin and up and coming monster D man Dougie Hamilton.
The Leafs did not make the play offs a single time under Burke even though expectations were high for the GM whose Anaheim team won Lord Stanley’s Cup in 2006/07
Burke’s teams generally were rough and tumble and had a bit of a Don Cherry feel which made the huge price for Kessel such an odd move. Kessel was nominated the softest NHL’er by a pool of actual players and coaches.
Dave Nonis will most likely take over the helm. More to come!
