CFN – What a way to spend the first day of summer! It was warm, it was bright, and it was beautiful. The market was just about the best place to be during the 2013 summer solstice. As you can see in the picture above it is strawberry season at Avonmore Berry Farm and they are big sweet and delicious. Ingleside Tomatoes had quite a selection of tomatoes and peppers for sale from their hot houses plus there were CornerStone Organics with fresh herbs, organic poultry and homemade soaps and Hoople Creek Farm who offered organic leafy greens and onions. Garlic scapes were being sold by the bunch along with local asparagus.
On the baking side, Swiss Farm Bakery had their usual delicious lineup of fresh baked products and Daisy Street Cakes were providing shoppers with their delicious cookies and squares. Also Clarkburn Farms was also on hand with their jams, jellies and sauces, Thai to Go had a constant line of shoppers waiting for their spring rolls and Thai entrees, and, last but not least, Coffey’s Coffee was serving up hot cups of freshly roasted coffee.
As promised my video interview is with another vendor new to the Long Sault Market this year, Islandview Buffalo Farms.
We can only hope that the weather next week is just as nice for the beginning of the long weekend but, rain or shine, we will be there to provide you with fresh local produce to make your holiday more enjoyable. Fare warning though, if it is sunny Benny the Bean will make an appearance.
