Thanksgiving
Town Hall Closure
The Town Hall will be closed for Thanksgiving Day on Monday, October 14. Staff will be available at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, October 15.

DOOR –TO- DOOR SALES PEOPLE
The Township provides licenses for door-to-door sales people, however, this does not mean the township endorses or recommends the products or services being offered.
New
LANDFILL PASS CHANGE
Pursuant to By-law No. 2013-051, being a By-law to provide and regulate a Waste Management System, effective October 1, 2013, the 2011-2014 landfill pass will now represent TWO LOADS per year instead of TWO FREE DAYS.
LEAF AND YARD WASTE DAYS
FOR built up areas, IN approved compostable paper bags is scheduled for:
Monday, October 7 and 21
Monday, November 4 and 25

Hydrant Flushing and Maintenance Program
Hydrant flushing will be carried out from September 30 to November 1, 2013
in the hamlets of
Ingleside, Long Sault and St. Andrews West

During the flushing operation, poor water pressure and/or RED water may result.

This situation is temporary and may last up to two hours.

The coloured water is not hazardous.
-
If coloured water is detected, the public is requested to open their COLD water taps in order to clear the system.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE
Open House
South Stormont’s Economic Development Strategic Plan is the guiding document for future economic development in the Township. Since reaching out to residents in June at the community consultations, our Draft Plan update is completed and ready for your review.
We invite all residents of South Stormont to review the Economic Development Strategic Plan on our website or at the open house on Wednesday September 25 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the South Stormont Community Hall, 2 Mille Roches Road, Long Sault with presentation and consideration for Council during the regular meeting. Do you draw your residential water from a private well?
The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) offers FREE water testing to households that draw their drinking water from a private well. Pick up a water sample bottle from the EOHU to have your well water tested for coliform bacteria and E-coli:

every 4 months (3 times a year);
-
if you suspect a waterborne illness; or
-
if you notice a change in colour, odour or taste.

Property Taxes Reminder Notice
A friendly reminder that the final installment for 2013 property taxes is September 30. For your convenience, please be advised of the following methods of payment available:

In person at the Town Hall, cash, cheque, etc.

Mail cheque or money order to P.O. Box 84, Long Sault, ON K0C 1P0.

After hours, access the drop off box beside the front entrance of the Town Hall.

Telephone/internet banking.

At ABMs (automated bank machines) and at most financial institutions.
Please ensure that your method of payment allows sufficient time for processing; payments must be received at the office by the due date. For your information a penalty of 1.25% is added to all outstanding tax accounts the day after the payment due date and continues to be added on the first day of each month until the account is paid in full. Thank you for your cooperation. Should you have any questions, please contact the Township office.
