CFN – Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne has waded into the Rob Ford situation again. This time she’s released a new statement.
“As I have said from day one, we have been watching this situation closely and listening carefully. Events obviously continue to move quickly. The things we are seeing and hearing about Mayor Rob Ford are truly disturbing. Yesterday, City Council voted to request the mayor take a leave of absence.
As Premier of Ontario, the principles that are guiding me on this issue are as follows:
One, the City of Toronto has a mayor and council that were elected by the residents of Toronto and must be accountable to them. It is up to the municipal level of government to address the issues they face. It is not the provincial government’s role, nor its intention to impose its preferences upon that government.
Two, Toronto City Council has to be able to function.
Three, if council were to clearly indicate that they lack the ability to function as a result of this matter, the province would respond to a request from council to be provided new tools, depending on what that request might be.
Four, because of the extraordinary and unique nature of this type of intervention, I would consult with the other party leaders to see if our legislature could move unanimously if required.
The last thing this terrible situation needs is a layer of partisan politics. Within Ontario’s legislature and across this city, we all have to stand together to represent the best interests of the people.
At every level, your government is here to serve you.
Toronto is a great city in an amazing province. We have a proud history and a bright future.
Toronto is greater than one politician or one government. Ontario is greater than one politician or one government.
I understand that people are affected by what is happening at this moment.
But I want the people of Toronto to know that we will not be defined by this.
And we will all work together to ensure the people’s interests are served.”
Imagine? A Premier that can take a partisan shot at a Conservative Mayor, albeit a crack smoking, now allegedly whoring and oxy snorting and whisky consuming one.
What tools is Premier Wynne talking about? And should these tools for municipalities also apply at a Provincial level? Clearly The government that she’s been a part of for a very long time have known about many municipal issues. While the allegations against Toronto Mayor Ford are embarrassing to most; and insane in many ways, he has not been alleged to have stolen from the public or swindled? He’s not connected to shady land deals involving relatives or helping in some way get his son a gig with a local fire department.
He’s been exposed for being a train wreck of a mess. Frankly many people these days are train wrecks. It doesn’t mean they can’t function.
While this is not an endorsement of Rob Ford who I think think has failed utterly in how he has handled this total situation it shouldn’t surprise anyone. Toronto chose to elect a Chris Farley impersonator. They probably will vote for him again.
Yes, Ontario needs new tools for the toothless municipal act. It needs them at the Provincial level too. Will Ms Wynne act on that or is it only Conservative’s with issues that she voices out on?
Loading ...It’s sad to see any politician trying to make hay at the suffering of the people of Toronto now. It’s time for healing and it’s time for Mayor Ford to take a breather and go dry out. Dropping taxes will be here when he gets back, and while we’re waiting for these tools Premier Wynne is splarting about the people will get to decide next October.

Quebec put a law in place earlier this year that would allow a judge to remove a mayor, there is a precedent.
Our wallets will need hinges over her “revenue tools”, how about “new tools” to reduce the hundreds of billions on debt and deficits before getting involved with Toronto. How about allowing communities to say no to the green energy wind farm boondoggle? How is more debt with green bonds going to help?
Rob Ford, get a driver, stay home and shut your mouth for a while.
As the results of your poll indicates it is not up to Wynn to make changes to a municipal issue.
If the media and city council left Rob alone and gave him the opportunity to deal with his issues in his own way, the man would have half a chance to correct and transform his past behaviors. He has done a fantastic job so far even with an alleged drinking problem, so what is the big deal? If he had failed in what he was elected to do, then people would have a legitimate reason to ask for his resignation. His boozing did not interfere with his job performance, far from it. As for drugs, I do believe it is a non issue.
What a person does in their personal life is their business. If it doesn’t affect another, what is the problem?
This isn’t a Con/Lib/Dipper issue. It’s about the Mayor of Canada’s largest city who is mentally out of control, and is clearly not fit to hold public office. The damage he has and continues to inflict on Canada’s and Toronto’s reputation world wide is unfathomable. We’ve never seen anything like this before. There should be provincial legislation in place to deal with extreme situations like this even if it only has to be used once.

Honestly Furtz, there are mayors doing a far worse job than in Toronto. Just look here in Cornwall as our reserves are way too low; our surplus gone, while the city spends millions on cover up settlements and litigation.

The people voted him in, let the people have the choice to vote him out. That is democracy.

Agreed Stellabystarlight. I would vote for him in a heartbeat if living in T.O. Can’t stand the left. Toronto has too many cry ass, finger ponting, rich T.I.F.F. socialite wannabees. T.O. needs a guy who can get things done..not pink, fluffed-up politics from the likes of Chow and the “trendy” left.
Funny thing is, if they had a vote on day 1 of his term, council would have voted to remove him. This is no secret. Gotta love the media.
As of today, Ford has been stripped of almost all of his powers as mayor. He is mayor in title only. Now pretty much all he can do is cut ribbons and show up at public functions, drunk or sober.
That’s kinda like our mayor except for those back room land deals…

@ Stella. I would agree with you if it was only a few screw ups…even big ones. Ford has been out of control for years now, and clearly needs help. As a councilor before he was elected mayor, he got into a drunken tirade threatening people at a Leafs game. Since elected mayor, he has appeared in public and at OFFICIAL PUBLIC FUNCTIONS pissed out of his tree and incoherent! He hangs out with known criminal gang members, and smokes crack, and has admitted to buying illegal drugs since becoming the mayor of Toronto! By his own admission he drives drunk! And there are people who have witnessed him driving while drinking vodka!
This goes way beyond a few screw ups that can be swept under the carpet. Never mind the world wide ridicule that Ford has attracted to Toronto and Canada… This clown is a public danger.
In the meantime, the Toronto Police Service (TPS) has their top criminal homicide investigator still working on Robbie’s file. There will be more to come.
If Kathleen Wynne is offering to assist Toronto with its little problem perhaps we should ask her for her assistance with our Mayor and his problems.

Our previous municipal election here in Toronto featured two leading contenders for the mayor’s office.
The other contender who lost is a fellow by the name of George Smitherman. Mr. Smitherman has the personality of an atom bomb and has admitted publically to a recreational drug habit (in his past?). He was a liability as a provincial health minister before his run for mayor as well.
I’m just saying, it wasn’t an easy choice to make for a lot of voters.
Based on the short list of 2014 T.O. mayoral candidates…If an election were to happen tomorrow, I believe that I, along with thousands of other people would vote for Ford..would he have enought to win? Don’t know..not if he keeps shooting his mouth off. My vote is not necessarily for Ford himself, but rather a vote against the extreme left. Wynne should know to keep her unelected nose out of it..she’s a “Billion Dollar Paper Premiere” of a Liberal Have-Not Province…What irks me is that certain Liberal T.O. Council members, who have their eye on next years Mayoral chair, were allowed to repeatedly drag Ford through the mud during council meeting..allowed to ask him personal questions about sex and drug use…The laugh was when Doug Ford stood up and asked a certain council member and political foe of the Ford’s, about his previous drug use…you could here crickets rubbing their legs together..would’nt answer..and this guy demanded an apology from Doug afterwards.. what a joke…Yes, Furtz…This is a Con/Lib Dipper issue in my eyes.

And his political enemies forced him to admit to drinking and driving, and buying illegal drugs since becoming mayor? And making bizarre statements about his private sex life? And on and on.. This tragic downfall is entirely of his own making. His own friends and political allies have been begging him to get help, and he’s told them all to eff off. Toronto’s reputation around the world is taking a sh!t-kicking not because of Ford’s enemies, but because of Ford himself.

If Rob Ford, right now, declared publically, and went through with a real “recovery program” and emerged sober, focused and healthy in his return to office, with a period of success upon return – he would be bigger than God! Everywhere!

That might be true Michael, but in the meantime, Toronto’s most senior police homicide detective is still investigating. The Ford file hasn’t been closed yet.

Police at the scene said she was under the influence or drugs or alcohol. The story went on to say Mayor Ford dragged his two young children to the Military Ball to support our Veterans. At this event Ford was asked to leave because he was drunk or drugged out of his mind. So this is his private life on display to all were multiple sources say he was driving drunk with these kids.Ford had his kids in the car along with a convicted wife beater(Lisi) and another guy linked to illegal drugs Yet thru all this you ask us to give him yet another chance

Jared is the public face of the Subway sandwich empire. At one point he dedicated his life to losing his excess weight through a disciplined consumption of submarine sandwiches. And hell, if it didn’t work! Soon people were craning their necks on the street (in the ads anyway) to catch a glimpse of the new lean, mean submarine sandwich-eating machine (like the Beatles even). Jared’s been around for awhile now and I think some of the excitement’s wound down about his sandwich celelbrity.
Hopefully he didn’t blow all his money on hookers, coke and limos.

About tn years ago, I was the only person at work who wasn’t always saying “yada yada yada”.
I don’t have a television either and haven’t for the last 10 years. I can’t say I miss it.
I don’t look down on TV – it’s just not my thing.
