CFN – Are you ready to guess that banned book? In honour of Freedom to Read Week, the SD&G County Library is challenging residents on their knowledge of banned or censored books.
Held February 23 to March 1, Freedom to Read Week is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Follow the Library on Facebook (www.facebook.com/sdgcountylibrary) and on Twitter (@sdglibrary) for a banned book trivia question a day during Freedom to Read Week.
“Access to information is an important right. We’re challenging residents’ knowledge on what books are frequently asked to be removed from library shelves”, explained Erika Heesen, Communications and Marketing Librarian. “The Library will have a trivia question on Facebook and Twitter every day. Everyone who guesses the answer will get a $2 “Get Out of Fines Free” card, and everyone who answers correctly will be entered in a draw to win a 7” Google Nexus tablet”.
There will also be programs and displays at all library branches throughout SD&G during the week. Free the ‘chained’ book in Maxville, defend a challenged book in Chesterville and Lancaster, and drop by for an impromptu book reading in Dalkeith!
