CFN – Tonight marks the beginning of Passover; the Holy Jewish Holiday whereby Jews across the world eat matzoh and get constipated if they don’t eat enough prunes and fruit.
Here in Cornwall the Jewish community is nearly extinct. The synagogue is now a private home; but there is hope as a small group meets every few months now. Cornwall has quite a Jewish history, but that has been bulldozed like Horowitz Park was mostly so that a really ugly mall could be erected that faces the wrong way.
Cornwall’s most famous Jewish citizen was famous for being Mayor of Toronto. Nathan Phillips. Aaron Horowitz was the first mayor of the Incorporated City of Cornwall Ontario.
In the narrative of the Exodus, the Bible tells that God helped the Children of Israel escape slavery in Egypt by inflicting ten plagues upon the ancient Egyptians before the Pharaoh would release his Israelite slaves; the tenth and worst of the plagues was the death of the Egyptian first-born. The Israelites were instructed to mark the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a spring lamb and, upon seeing this, the spirit of the Lord knew topass over the first-born in these homes, hence the name of the holiday.[4] There is some debate over where the term is actually derived from.[5] When the Pharaoh freed the Israelites, it is said that they left in such a hurry that they could not wait for bread dough to rise (leaven). In commemoration, for the duration of Passover no leavened bread is eaten, for which reason it is called “The Festival of the Unleavened Bread”.[6]Matzo (flat unleavened bread) is a symbol of the holiday.

It’s also the time of the year that many Jews remember Yul Brynner as Pharoah in The Ten Commandments and try and figure out ways to eat Chinese food during Passover without breaking any rules…

And speaking of Yul, he made this great commercial asking people to stop smoking before he was stopped by Cancer from smoking.

CFN asked our MP, MPP, Mayor, Cornwall City Councilors, the Hospital, and other agencies (like the Upper Canada District Schoolboard that just brought in a Survivor to speak to the kids after the Swastika issue in CCVS) if they’d like to share their Passover greetings to the community and our viewers. (some were asked twice even) The City’s website and facebook page make no mention of Passover as of press time; nor do any of the other local media which is why we asked those on our public purse to greet the community.
To his credit Councilor Maurice Dupelle was the only official that decided to do so.

I wish to send very good wishes for the Jewish Passover to all the Jewish people in Cornwall. I remember that movie very well with Charlton Heston and Yule Brynner and I first saw it when I was a child. That was many long years ago. Never forget what your predecessors went through and none of us know the future but the Bible tells the stories which are true indeed and don’t forget that history repeats itself. I have known so many wonderful Jewish people in Cornwall in past years and I treasure each and everyone of them. Mayor Horowitz was the very best mayor that Cornwall ever had. Yes they took out a nice park to put up a very ugly mall indeed. Mayor Horowitz treated the people of Cornwall very well and made picnics for the people to go to and people felt like a family. Always remember your Jewish roots and always be very proud. You have accomplished so much and just keep up the good work. You too Jamie I am very proud of all what you have accomplished as well.

I am sickened after seeing this and the murderer looks like a red neck. I couldn’t look at the entire article because I hate this kind of thing happening. This dirt bag yelled out “heil Hitler” and I stopped right there and didn’t continue. Anti Semitism is alive and well. This is really bad.
Jules that’s not what the first seder is about. There are times and places for that sort of news. Not tonight though.
Kudos to Councilor Maurice Dupelle for sharing his Passover greetings on CFN. I’m sure the mayor and the “clique” will be impressed.
With over 60,000 unique visitors last month that roughly translates to over 100,000 people not counting social media. Can you imagine anyone in charge of any seat of government neglecting that size audience? For what reason? It’s like me not wishing our viewers Happy Easter because Mayor Kilger is a high level Knight of Columbus….
I am an RC and I wish the Jewish people a very good and happy Passover. As for Bare Ass being a 4th degree Knights of Columbus who gives a care about that. The Knights of Columbus is another branch of freemasonry. Look up Dr. Walter Veith to listen to that.
