Proust Questionnaire For Cornwall Ontario Council Candidates – Gary Samler

samlerCFN-   We are asking all candidates to fill out our mini survey so the public can get to know them better.  We are posting them as they arrive in chronological order.

Up next is Gary W. Samler for his second attempt at gaining a seat at the council table.

1) Who are you?
I was born and raised in a military family living just outside Quebec City. I grew up and following in my Dad’s footsteps I served in Canada’s military for over 20 years and I am a proud veteran. I am a married family man and have 3 children and 6 grandchildren all living here in Cornwall. I am a very strong advocate for fairness and social justice. As a social – minded community volunteer and activist I work hard at bringing awareness to many issues I feel need improvement to make our city a cleaner, safer, happier community for everyone to enjoy and work for a better quality of life for our future. I am the President of Friends of Vets, a peer to peer support group helping local vets, service members and their families deal with PTSD, Suicide and other issues after war or military service.

2)  Why are you running for office?

I have a strong interest, desire and passion for municipal politics. I am not happy by the way politics in Cornwall is currently being  done neglecting the real issues and needs of our community and I want to be one who can bring a new direction and focus to change these things. As a former soldier I have been trained to bring leadership and a voice of reason to the table.

3) What are the three best things about our community?

Potential   Location   Services

4) What are your three priorities to improve Cornwall?

Promotion- We need to find out why our economic development department has failed in promoting our city better to persuade outside companies to come here to work, invest and to live.

Transparency – We need to be open and accountable to all the citizens of Cornwall. No integrity and hiding behind closed doors to cover up scandals and mismanagement no longer works.

Waterfront Development –  Our waterfront is a jewel that we need to ensure is protected and properly developed.

5) Who was your hero as a child?

Batman –  Batman is a selfless crimefighter who risks his life everyday to protect the citizens of Gotham City to make it a better and safer place to live.

6) If you could brand the Cornwall of the future in one word what would that word be?

Hope.

  1. Mr. Samler is a good man and wants to protect Cornwall and I don’t blame him at all. We need transparency and not scandals and trying to hide them and the rest of the country is laughing at Cornwall because of its frauds and very bad administration. Big changes are needed. People have to leave Cornwall to work elsewhere. I was at the doctor’s office today with my daughter and while on Slater Street I saw a bus picking up passengers to go to Newington. I felt like getting on that bus and heading to Cornwall. LOL LOL. I sure wouldn’t want to run into Tammy Hart and I went oh oh. LOL LOL. ROLF! That would have been quite a scene. All the best to you Mr. Samler and I hope that you get a seat on council.

  2. Thank you Jules for your kind response to this Proust. Too bad you cannot vote in Cornwall but I do appreciate your support and enjoy reading all your comments posted on CFN. My hope is that Cornwall will vote for positive change and not for a name they recognize or vote to support a hidden agenda. We need to get it right this time.

  3. Thank you Mr. Samler for your very kind response. I too want to see big changes for Cornwall and positive ones that could make Cornwall a much better place to live and one that people would not be ashamed to call home. At this present rate with Bare Ass in charge I feel very embarrassed because it has become a joke about sex abuse and frauds going on. I am one who supports Leslie O’Shaughnessey for mayor and this man showed that he had principals to have resigned under such horrible administration. You are one of the people that I look up to with great respect and I thank you very much for sticking in there. It is no easy job at all dealing with people and putting up with all the corruption going on. All the very best to you Mr. Samler and wish you all the best. Like I said in my posts I will not vote for Jim Watson because of Bare Ass’s involvement with his assistant and himself. I wash my hands out of it all. I look up to you with great respect and admiration for what you have been through. All the best and take care.
