SECOND OCCUPANT SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES IN COLLISION (update)
(South Stormont) – SD&G OPP officers, assisted by OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) continue their investigation of a single motor vehicle collision which occurred on October 18, 2014 at approximately 2:10pm on Highway 401, west of the Moulinette Road exit, South Stormont Township.
A 2006 Chevrolet HHR (carrying 2 occupants), driven by Lynda BAYNTON (65) of Bradford, Ontario, was westbound on Highway 401, when for reasons under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway, entered the centre median and struck a cement culvert. Robert SMART (61) of Etobicoke, Ontario, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of injuries sustained. BAYNTON was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The passing lane of Highway 401 westbound was closed and traffic directed into the driving lane as police processed the scene. The roadway was fully re-opened at approximately 10:00pm.
