The soldier that was shot is dead and the gunman is dead as well. This is possibly an act of terrorism. I was on my way home with my husband from the park and Cornwall’s former mayor Brian Sylvestre was on The Jewel Radio talking about it and when I came home I told my daughter about it and she turned on the TV. The Rideau Centre has something going on as well and I figured that there was more than one shooter involved. On Yahoo.ca under slide number 12 of the 26 pictures the paramedic helping to guide the stretcher looks like my former neighbor who is originally from Windsor. He is the second one with no gloves on. Canada is expecting terrorism and my husband read that in his papers. Ottawa is full of them and it has been a long time since we ever have anything to do with anyone. Since our friend Robert died and others as well we keep our distance. I wanted to go out this afternoon but in no way will I attempt that and my area is loaded with such people. We had shootings here in the area where Heron Gate is and those buildings and townhomes are full of them.
Parliament Hill and area still under lock-down. Witnesses said there were two in the car. But yet no mention by authorities if they know who the second person is and if they have them in custody.
CBC has a dash cam video of the attacker getting into a car just after the attack at the War Memorial. So, it looks like he acted alone.
One nut-case with a long gun. An unbelievable lapse in security on Parliament Hill. Somebody’s got some splainin to do. Harper has just had his best day in months.
This unfortunate occurrence was, as many predicted, inevitable. The Islamic extremists stated that they would bring their brand of terrorism into our house and they did. No surprise. The measure of our resolve will be determined by the manner in which we behave and respond going forward. England the United States and many many more nations have suffered the effects of terrorism at the hands of Muslin extremists. Although the resolution to the worlds dilemma regarding the spread of terrorism may not be clear and concise our stand is clear. We will not be intimidated by Muslin Salafi jihadism.
Definitely a lapse in security considering events of the past week and renewed threats against Canada et al. I sincerely hope that this wake up call encourages us to take the threat of terrorism on our doorstep more seriously. Certainly, only a short time ago, when the nut case managed to run into the White House (and was tackled and subdued) the Americans realized that their security efforts had to improve dramatically. We have now learned the same lesson first hand.
I agree that most western countries are under threat of attack from some “radical” Middle Easterners. After all, we’ve been exploiting their resources and bombing the hell out of them for years. That kind of thing tends to piss people off for some reason. However, in the case Canadian born Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, he acted alone and had a history of crime and mental illness. It was hardly an organized terrorist attack directed from some bunker in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster for that Furtz.
