CFN is reviewing and rating local candidates this election instead of endorsing.
Our next candidates for review are for Gary Samler & Jason Swerdfeger
Mr. Samler is taking his second whack at getting elected. He’s come a long way in the last four years. His public speaking is much better. His knowledge and focus on issues is much better.
He’s progressed, but the question is whether he is a narrow focus candidate or is he more fully rounded now?
Only the public can decide that. Again, opportunities for candidates have been limited. Gary isn’t afraid to voice his opinion most times and compared to other candidates has been stand up; for example we have disagreed over the Poppy issue regarding former MPP Jim Brownell; but Mr. Samler has supported the decision he has taken involving that issue.

Jason Swerdfeger is a cute little guy. You just want to pinch his cheeks and hug him and it’s awesome to see a young person trying to enter politics. Sadly there seems to be some nastiness there. He clearly isn’t ready for prime time; but it should be interesting what his political involvement in the community is over the next four years and if he tries to mount a better campaign next time around.
