CFN is reviewing and rating local candidates this election instead of endorsing.
Our next candidates for review are Gerald Samson, Glen Grant, Todd Bennett, and Roland Besner.
I like Gerry Samson. Yes he’s like a character from the Simpsons. Yes my dachshund could probably take him at Jeopardy; but Gerry is passionate about issues and people. If you get him pointed in a direction he may sometimes even take the point home and deliver it. Does that warrant him being supported? Sadly with this slate of options it puts him near the top of the food chain.
If that’s the key reason to vote for him we need more than pay rises to get better candidates out.
He has a penchant for standing up to Mayor Kilger and then retreating when thought is required to finish the battle.

Glen Grant represents some of the worst parts of our political culture. Petty and corrupt. He loves to be stickler on the minutiae but then clearly will blow the rules out the door as evidenced in the Waterfront Committee meeting where he voted that CFN was not media and then to illegally move in camera. People like Glen Grant and those that support him are why this city can’t crack the 50,000 population mark.
As you can see in the video it was Councilor Grant with all his experience that suggested moving in camera illegally.

Todd Bennett has been working hard. He attends meetings. He participates in committees. The problem with Todd Bennett are the decisions that he takes and the choices he makes.
It’s hard to support him when he says one thing to your face and then politics down when it’s time to show what he’s made of. There’s still hope for him; but he needs to decide whether he wants to be Glen Grant Jr or his own man.

Roland Besner has been aggressive in this election. His signs are everywhere. He’s advertised in many places. He’s at all events. He clearly is in to win. His message is fairly simple and true to his Conservatives roots is based on the bottom line.
His wrangling, literally, with Glen Grant, made the campaign more interesting. Has his message resonated with voters? We’ll find out Monday night.
