CFN Municipal Candidate Reviews For Cornwall MCINTOSH TOWNDALE ST.JEAN RIVETTE

ballotCFN is reviewing and rating local candidates this election instead of endorsing.

Our next candidates for review are  Claude McIntosh, Justin Towndale, Guy St. Jean, Andre Rivette

I like Claude McIntosh.  Yes, we have crossed swords.  Yes because of him Sun Media had to write me a cheque recently and after attacking me in that column that got me that cheque he never wrote another word for the Freeholder where he’d been for ages; but there is something about adversaries who face some of the same battles that makes for amazing communication sometimes.

Claude has had an interesting campaign; many times appearing to simply be going through the motions, an then at others looking interested and making sound points.

He knows where a lot of the skeletons have been buried at City Hall and has a long history and relationship with Mayor Kilger.     Should be interesting to see what he has to say after Monday night….

Justin Towndale will have a lot of support from his family and local Liberals.  He’s young; but doesn’t have very strong political connections at this point.  He fumbled early in the debates; but picked up towards the end.  Sadly council candidates have had very little opportunity to speak or communicate what they are about.   He has followed the Bernadette Clement campaign style of advertising a lot which may help his campaign.

Frankly we don’t know enough about Mr. Towndale to get a gut feel on his true nature.

If you drive your daddy’s car; live in your daddy’s home, and run a vanity business does that make you a great leader?   How do you pipe up about caring about your city and the East End and then open your store in South Stormont?  Surely Montreal Road is filled with empty spaces, no?   And you wouldn’t need to drive to work from your ritzy Cotton Mill loft, no?

Everything about Guy St. Jean, when you scratch the surface, reeks of veneer.   That being said he appears to be the darling of the Francophone community and is in thick with the Bob Peters Sue Stewart Clique so it just might be enough to carry him to a win and inflict four years of Porch Policing on our city.

Andre Rivette has seen the best and worst of Cornwall his many years of serving on council.  I have written that none of the incumbents should be allowed to return; especially because none of them have really taken responsibility for what’s happened these last four years.

Of course it’s never easy to be in one’s footsteps and have to make some of the tough decisions that they do; but Councilor Rivette could have been a game changer, but the same could be said about councilor Dupelle, former councilor O’Shaughnessy who is running for mayor and has been endorsed by councilor Rivette or even one of the other Councillors who don’t have much metaphorical blood on their hands.

Andre has been known to fight for some and for some issues, but has also been known to not fight or give up too.
